Mrs. Rosa Massey, and Mrs. Lula Hopkins were able to attend ihe meeting, after recent ill nesses. All of the club mem bers were happy to have (hem reunite with them. Each or the ladles received their sick benefits. Mrs. Koton. who is still III, received her sick ben efits. also. The Widows' Civic Club has an enrollment of twenty-one members. The c'ub Is accept ing one more application at the mx: meeting, after which time the membership will be closed for this yar. The club made a contrlbii- tlon to Mrs. Elizabeth Cofield, who IS running for a public o.fice. This money was taken from the treasury. The next meeUng will be held at the heme of Mrs.Edna Chalmers. 833 Newcombe Rd. The social committee. Mrs. Rosa Massey, and her co workers. have planned a weigh: rally for this meeting. The proceeds will go to swell the treasury. Due to lltness and other commitments, all of the mem bers were not present, but the following were present: Mes- dams Jsssie Browm. Pound cake with coffee was served lor drssert. The dining service, as well as the food was first class, and very efficient. All the members thoroughly en joyed the occasion. After dinner, we celebrated two members’ birthday. Mrs. Lula Hopkins and Mrs. Rosa Massey. SORORITY SPONSORS "THE GOSPEL TRUTH’’ Upsllon Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, hic.sponscr- ed a gospel program on Sun day, March 26, 1972 at 3;00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The theme for the program was "The Gospel Truth.” Surely, the "Gospel Truth” was told with the help of the Male Chorus from First Cos mopolitan Baptist Church, The United Heritage Gospel Oolr of Shaw University, The Youth Choir and Sextet from Manly Street United Church of Christ, Ihe Gospel Chorus from Wes leyan First Church of Deliver ance and Mr. Kenneth Clark of Manly Street United Church. The purpose of the program was to strengthen Iota Phi Lambda's Scholarship Fund lo enable the sorority to present a sizeable scholarship to a young lady at the end of this school year to pursue further education In the field of busi ness. The sons and duaghters of the sorority members served as ushers for this occasion. The program was a success and enjoyed by all who attend ed. The atmosphere of the Len ten scastm prevailed throughout the devotion which was con ducted by Mesdames G, Green and J. D. Henry, and the busi- ness meeting which was presided over by Mrs. W, E. Egorton. president. At the end of the business session, the alliance assembled quietly In the family room which was beautifully prepared for an "Upper Room" service. Several thank you and acknowledgement cards were read, coming from once sick members and from fami lies of deceased church mem bers and friends. A progress report on our Mother’s Dqj Program, to be held the second Sunday in May, was given to the group. We are happy to announce that all plans are working out nicely. A sample book-back for the "Mother's Day Leaflet" was passed among ihe members to view. The cover was unani mously accepted for the 1972 year. The president called for the sharing of iho least coin.
