Letter From Church...
TEN COMMANDMENTS OF DISCIPLINE
Ten Commandments of Discipline was first started in the First
Congregational Church on the corner of South jnd Manley Streets,
collected by Mr. and Mrs. Richmond Davis, Jr. each Sunday after
church. The purpose of this money was to establish a fund to help
suport the Black Colleges and Universities, while at the same time,
grow spiritually. Each. Sunday, this money was placed in an
envelope. Church members could indicate the disciplinary principles
they used if they desired.
The program, which lasted a little over a year, was discontinued
because of a building project, but was very successful. The amount
collected waS-$3,Q00 approximately,
The church recently approved the establishment of an emergency
fund for members of the church family and the local community. A
portion of the fund will also be used to make an annual contribution to
Black colleges and universities. The emergency fund will be financed
by a program called the TEN COMMANDMENTS OF DISCIPLINE.
A committee has been appointed by the Church Council to oversee the
operation of the emergency fund.
BLACK COLLEGES CONTRIBUTION
At the end of each year, the emergency fund committee will
recommend to the Church Council an amount of funds to be donated
to Black Colleges from the emergency fund. Upon approval, a check
will be drafted to the United Negro College Fund or to institutions as
stipulated by the Church Council.

I To Be Further Exploited Economically...
Chain Letter
A Chain letter would touch all key persons
interested in the advancement and independence
of theraceeconomically as the above plan would
finance projects suggested for the colleges and
universities. In this way each person would mail
a letter to five prominent people who in turn do
likewise thereby promoting the plan to be
installed in thousands of churches throughoutthe
country.
43 Products...
Projection
Each college campus produces one product
manufactured with student labor. Students
would not only learn how to make something, but
earn money to maintain themselves and their
needs, while in college. In turn Japan, China,
Germany, etc. can make products for the
American consumer, certainly our educational
institutions can learn to match their ingenuity
and skills. Let’s Get To Work NOW!
Churches Asked To Hay0R*fen Commandments Of Discipline Sunday
There are many reasons for different types of sermons. We believe there is ample reason why a sermon on the
10 Commandments as applied to the above program is significant at this time. We believe the church administrators
believe in the total worth of a community and its constituents, including the spirit the soul and the body. It is with
this in mind that we look forward to our biggest institution to carry out this project.
The CAROLINIAN is grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Richmond
Davis and Rev. Donald Ingram, pastor of First
Congregational, Mr. Lawrence Wilson & the committee
that compiled information, and the Evergen
Committee of Donzell Hunter, Mary Marable,
Smith, Maggie Thomas* and Lawrence Wilson.
