Shaw Accomplishes Endowment Project Shaw University’s President Talbert O. Shaw announced to day that the University suc cessfully accomplished its en dowment fund goal of raising $1 million. The $1 million donated by Shaw alumni, members of the General Baptist State Con vention of North Carolina, cor porations, friends, UNCF, trustees and faculty and staff is to match a $2 million grant provided through the U.S. Department of Education’s Title III Endow ment Challenge Grant Pro gram. The alumni effort was led by a national fundraising commit tee under the direction of Presi dent Barbara McSweenex and the renowned gospel singer, alumna Dr. Shirley Caesar. In addttfcav members General Baptist State 0 of the tion of North Carolina, Inc. (GBSC) churches made sacrificial donations above and beyond their regular annual contributions for this cam paign. Hie GBSC effort was conducted under the leadership of Convention President J.B. Humphrey and Executive Secretary C.C. Craig, along with a special steering commit tee co-chaired by Dr. C.R. Ed wards, member of the North Carolina General Assembly, and Dr. Priscilla A. Brodie, Ex ecutive Secretary of the Woman’s Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary Convention of North Carolina. . Contributions also came from businesses, corporations, foundations, many friends, as well at the trustees, family and staff of file university. Founded in ISM by a Maas., with a small grant Cram the New York State Baptist Association, Shaw came into formal existence through a gift of property and a charter by the General Assembly of North Carolina. Part of the land was used to establish the first four year medical school in North Carolina, and Shaw continued to educate doctors, graduating a total of 4M, until World War I.
