(AP)—A teen ager was wounded last Friday night when shooting erupted at a Lansing theater where the movie Juice opened. Shooting started between two groups of teens shortly before 10 p.m. in the lobby of the Lansing Mall west Cinemas in Eaton County’s delta Tonwship, said Bob Robison, a supervisor for the county’s emer gency dispatch. Jamarc Roberts-Ricardo Randall, 17, of Lansing, was shot twice in the leg, Robinson said. Randall was taken by friends to St. Lawrence Hospital, where nursing supervisor Donna Corbett said he was in stable condition early Saturday. No other injuries were reported. It was undetermined whether Ran dall was a bystander or wasinvolved in the fight, Robison said. The movie, which depicts inner city life in Harlem, was just letting out when the shooting started with one person firing shots at the lobby’s ceiling. The fight spilled outside, and several shots were fired back into the theater, shattering two windows and striking the ticket booth. At least nine shots were fired from at least two handguns, and a third gun was found at the scene, Robison said. Theater managers declined to comment on the shootings, referring questions to a national headquar ters where calls were unanswered early Saturday. Like Boyz N the Hood and New Jack City, Juice is a portrayal of inner-city life directed by a black filmmaker. Ernest Dickerson, who T has worked in the past as Spike Lee s cinematographer, directed and co wrote Juice. Many theater owners, reacting to crowd violence that plagued Boyz and New Jack City, beefed up secu rity as the movie opened nationwide Friday. Weaiwer Bros. Ivo SELLING AND SERVICING VOLVOS FOR 32 YEARS 4409 Capital Blvd. (Mini City) Ralaigh 876-6611 Punching Affair Gets 14 Ousted MILWAUKEE - Fourteen seventh and eighth grade black students were suspended from a Milwaukee middle school after they punched several white classmates amid a rumor that it was “White Kill Day,” school officials said. “They hear about the racial inequities of the past and interpret this as a time to act,” said Bell Middle School principal Dennis Schumacher. Schumacher also linked the attacks to a vow by Milwaukee Alderman Micheal McGee this week to launch a guerilla war against the city if conditions for minorities don’t improve by 1995. “City officials who fuel the fire... with their militant rhetoric don’t help,” Schumacher said. Schumacher described the suspended students as chronic troublemakers. He said about seven white male students reported that as they went to first-period class, the black male students, in groups of two or three, ran up to them and punched them. None of the students were seriously injured, he said. The perpetrators were identified by teachers and safety aides who witnessed the attacks. Schumacher said teachers heard rumors that Thursday and Friday were designed as "White Kill Days” at Bell and that some students said they were afraid to come to school on those days. But Florence Johnson, director of human relations for Milwaukee Public Schools, said she believed the “White Kill Days” were blown out of proportion. “It may have been nothing more than a hoax by one student,” she said. School district administrator, Denise Calloway said Friday that no other schools had reported race related problems this week. has been promoted to the position of Manager of Corporate Relations for Brown & Williamston Tobacco Corporation.
