FSU Professor Attends
NATO Lecture In Belgium

Ademiluyi, an assistant professor
of geography at Fayetteville State
University, attended the 1992
• NATO Discussion Series in Brus
sels, Belgium recently.
Dr. Ademiluyi specializes in
world regional geography, interna
tional trade security and the inte
gration of regional economics.
“I am very pleased to represent
Fayetteville State at this prestig
ious conference,” Dr. Ademiluyi
said before leaving. “The partici
pants will discuss issues that will
have a global significance.”
He joined professors from 12 col
leges and universities from across
America to learn about the North
Atlantic Treaty Organization.
An FSU faculty member since
1979, Dr. Ademiluyi was a visiting
professor at Shaw University in
Raleigh for one j^ar. He worked as
a teaching fellow in the Depart

Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1973
to 1975.
Dr. Ademiluyi was a teaching
assistant in the Department of
Geography at the University of
California at Los Angeles for two
years. He has also worked as an
adjunct professor of urban policy
and administration at Webster
College at Pope Air Force Base.
Dr. Ademiluyi received a
bachelor's degree in geography at
the University of Ife in De-Ife, Ni
geria, in 1970. he earned his
master’s degree in urban geogra
phy at UCLA in 1973. Dr. Ademi
luyi obtained a master’s degree in
regional planning and a doctorate
in city and regional planning at
UNC-Chapel Hill.
A former member of the Plan
ning Committee for the Black Con
ference at FSU in April 1991, he
was the chairman of the Student
Affairs Committee of the College of
Arts and Sciences in 1991-92.

ARLINGTON, Va.—Fourteen
former managers of stores oper
ated by Payless Shoe-Source, a di
vision of the May Department
Stores Co.—the largest retail de
partment store chain in the coun
try—have begun preparations for
a lawsuit against Payless for al
leged discriminatory treatment of
women and minorities.
The former employees of stores
from the Baltimore/Washington
area, Raleigh and Orlando, Fla.
have gathered together to tell
their stories of alleged abuse and
to bring forth what they say are
flagrant violations of civil rights,
of other constitutional laws and of
the common law.
An attempt to reach an amicable
agreement was conducted by Ar
bit, Inc., an Arlington-based em
ployee advocate service which pro
vides first steps toward solving
workplace conflicts. A compromise
could not be reached with repre
sentatives of the May Co., and Ar

under preparation for filing, Pay

its business in inner-city areas,
most of which are located in high
crime neighborhoods. The employ
ees initiating the suit against the
May Department Stores feel that
security for employees is often in
sufficient or in some cases nonex
istent. One of the plaintiffs was
held up at gunpoint during a rob
bery, then ordered immediately
back to work after making her
statement to police, against the
advice of her doctor.
Each of the 14 employees has a
story which Arbit claims is well
documented. In particular, 12 for

minority group or another, were

in St. Louis to urge passage of a
resolution which would promote a

women and minorities. While the
board of directors expressed sym

they opposed taking any direct ac
tion.
