They have spent the winter at their home in Elizabeth City. Mrs. Pauline Gaskins of Hatter as was returned to her home from Duke Memorial Hospital in Dur ham by Twiford Ambulance on Tuesday. Mrs. Gaskins has been hospitalized for about two weeks. Capt. and Mrs. R. E.Mason and son Chris of Ft. Devens, Mass., and Capt. Masons* mother, Mrs. Ethel Mason of Norfolk, were weekend guests of Mrs. Lyna Harbour. LOVELY REUNION OF HILL FAMILY AT COLINGTON Mr. and Mrs. Z. P. Hill of Col ington had a lovely family reunion Sunday, May 13. Six of their nine children were with them for Mo ther’s Day and quite a number of their grandchildren. They all en joyed the lovely dinner. The chil dren were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Stetson, Mr. and Mrs. V. F. Speight, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hill, Mrs. Harry Hay man, and Mrs. Thelma Wilkins, all of Portsmouth, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stetson of Norfolk. Mrs. Isaiah Ballance is slightly improving after having been ill for some time. An Officers Training Day was held Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Reuben Ballance. Mrs. Bal lance, the president, was in charge of the meeting. Mrs. Stockton Midgette and son Ted visited with Mrs. Ursie Mid gette last week at Rodanthe. GARDEN CLUBS SPONSOR ELIZABETHAN GARDEN An Elizabethan Gardon, sponsor ed by the North Carolina Garden Clubs, is planned as a feature of The Lost Colony properties here on Roanoke Island. Announcement that representatives of the state wide clubs had voted to raise $lO,- 000 as a starter for the project was made here on Tuesday by Mrs. Inglis Jletcher, member of the Roanoke Island Historical Associ ation. The State Garden CUs last week voted on the plan, which means the raising of SIO,OOO by subscription among the 10,000 Gar den Club members of the State during the next three years. The property is located adjacent to the Fort Raleigh national his toric site. It is about 10 acres in size and was purchased originally by the sponsoring association to be used as a parking lot. At present the property is densely wooded knolls and dunes. The garden will contain many flowers and plants from the fa mous Kew Gardens of London, through cooperation of Sir Evelyn Wrench and other British contacts of the association members. It will be designed by Albert Q. Bell. The 1951 edition shows all the state’s primary numbered high ways and as a new feature in cludes a ,number of $200,000,000 bond issue roads, especially those which serve as vital connecting links.
