FRIDAY, JANUARY 18,1952 SEIGRIB-MIDGETT WEDDING SUNDAY AT STUMPY POINT The marriage of Miss Marion Faye Midgett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Midgett of Stumpy Point, and Sgt. William Seigris, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Seigris of Norfolk, took place Sunday, Jan. 13, at 12:00 in the Shiloh Methodist Church in Stumpy Point. * The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. A. L. G. Stephenson. Mre. G. E. Meekins, pianist, played the wedding music and Marietta Hooper sang “Be cause” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The bride wore a gray suit with navy blue accessories and a cor sage of pink roses. After a short wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Seigris will make their home in Norfolk. Cake Cutting Mrs. Jimmie Meekins entertain ed at a cake cutting Saturday night honoring Faye Midgett and William Seigris. Those present were Marietta Hooper and Major Hooper, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Hooper, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mid gett, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Best. The hostess served Coca-Colas and salted nuts. Shower Mrs. Ola Midgett gave a mis cellaneous shower Friday night honoring her daughter Faye. A program of games and con tests was led by Mrs. G. E. Meek ins. The honoree received many use ful and lovely gifts . The hostess assisted by Myra Meekins and Margaret Midgett served pie, coffee, and toasted nuts to the 28 guests present. ENGELHARD PERSONALS M. C. McKinney has returned to Atlantic Christian College, Wilson, where he is a student, after a short . visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. McKinney, Sr. Mrs. Novaline Barrett, Misses June and Elizabeh Long who are making their home in Raleigh for the present, spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Long and family. Mr. and Mrs. Murel Marshall were Greenville visitors on Friday They were accompanied home by Miss Mitzi Watson of E. C. C. who spent the weekend with her par ents, at the Watson Hotel. Mrs. Dorothy Litchfield and daughter, Laura V. visited Cecil Gibbs, who is a patient at the Vet eran’s Hospital in Fayetteville during the weekend. Mesdames Horace Gibbs, C. F. Gibbs, J. H. Jarvis, I. B. Watson and Mrs. Sherill Fisher attended funeral rites for Mrs. Nancy Fish er former Hyde County resident on Saturday morning last at Orien tal. Mrs. Cynthia Spencer has re turned o Washington after visit ing relatives here. Her mother, Mrs. E. D. Stowe and sister, Mrs. S. S. Marshall, accompanied her home for a visit. Mrs. P. D. Midgett, 111, is teach ing in the Home Economic Cot tage at the local school in the ab sence of Mrs. Sam Dudley, who is on the sick list. Mrs. S. M. Gibbs spent part of last week in Rocky Mount. Va., with her daughter, Mrs. Bill Barn well, Mr. Barnwell and son. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Spencer, Misses Maggie and Bessie Watson were among Engelhard friends who attended burial rites for Har ry Lucas, formerly of Hyde county, at St. George’s Episcopal Church on Saturday. Mrs. Royden Neal and children Patty and Pete and Mrs. S. S. Neal §pent Saturday in Washington. Ephron Cahoon, U. S. Navy, spent the weekend with his fami ly here. The Duck Home Demonstration Club held its regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Min nie Gray on Wednesday, January 9th. , Movie slides were shown on ob jective Planning for Family Liv ing and discussion on the matter was given by the home agent, Mary Kirby, and R. Smith. Seven members were present and one visitor. Refreshments were served. MRS. TOM ETHERIDGE ENTERTAINS GARDEN CLUB The Roanoke Island Garden Club meeting for its January program was entertained by Mrs. Tom Etheridge and Mrs. Walter Ethe ridge at the home of Mrs. Tom Etheridge, and had as special guests Mrs. J. H. Barach and the Misses Amanda, Annie and Nata lie Etheridge. Mrs. Georgia Harwood presented a paper of interesting and helpful information on the main topic for the program, “Indoor Plants and Gardening.” Members of the club gave their own experiences with varied types of plants, some of which dealt with rare plants and at the close of the comments, Mrs. A. W. Drinkwater, president of the club, requested that at one of the spring meetings each member bring an unusual plant to the club showing an experience in indoor gardening which seemed unique. The club’s project for the month was that of planting dogwoods. Each member of the club pledged herself to plant one or more dog woods on a public plot, or a front lawn and to urge others to do the same during the month of January. During the business session those members of the club who were present and had not made their contribution to the Eliza bethan Garden, did so, and expres sed earnest hope that the project would go forward. The club is also ready to cooperate with the other clubs of the community in developing the pre-school play ground which the 'Woman’s Club still expects to push forward. The club members stated their interest in this project which was started last spring. During the social hour of the afternoon the hostesses served cof fee and strawberry shortcake, which seemed a pleasant forerun ner of spring.
