TOPPING DIES IN MOREHEAD CITY Willis Clifton Topping, 58, died suddenly Tuesday morning, April 15, in Morehead City, where he was employed by the Norfolk Dredging Company. A native of Warwick County, Va., Mr. Topping had made his home in Manteo for many years. He was the son of Samuel and Margaret Turlington Topping of Deep Creek, Va. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Marie Davenport Topping of Manteo; one son, Willis Clifton Topping, Jr., of Manteo; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Ann Grinaldi of Tampa, Fla., and one brother, A. D. Top ping of Newport News, Va. Mr. Topping was a member of the Baptist Church of Warwick County, Va., and of the 1.0.0. F. Lodge of Manteo. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at two o’clock in the Twiford Funeral chapel in Manteo, Rev. H. R. Ashmore offi ciating. Burial was in the Manteo cemetery. Among out-of-town people pres ent at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Grinaldi and daughter, Margie, of Tampa, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Don Topping, Mr. and Mrs. Rishton Willis and Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Meekins, Chairman of Dare County’s Clothing Project, has sent out the following request: “‘Up to this date there has been very little response to the request that you have read in your paper and heard over the radio to help us meet our goal—to provide usu able clothing for all ages and sexes for people in Dare County in need of these usuable garments. Again, we woull like to urge you to assist in this campaign. The drive will end April 28, 1952, and we shall appreciate your bringing usuable garments—clean, pressed and in good repair—to the Welfare Department on or before that date. Let’s help in providing clothing for the needy people of Dare Coun ty.” MRS. RAYMOND WESCOTT RE-ELECTED PTA HEAD Mrs. Raymond Wescott was re elected to the presidency of the Manteo Parent-Teacher Associa tion at the April meeting Tuesday afternoon. Other officers are: vice-president, Mrs. H. K. Tug well; secretary, Mrs. Roy Davis, Jr.; treasurer, W. 0. Finch. The Manteo group voted to go in a body to meet with the Wanchese 1 P.-T. A. on May 6, when a state I P.-T. A. official will be present. This will not teke the place of the Manteo May meeting. The Noble Grand, Mrs. Lois Midgett, urges all members to be present. ALBERT E. BELL FUNERAL THURSDAY Funeral services for Albert E. Bell, 80, who died at the home of his son, Albert Q. Bell, Tuesday at Manteo, were conducted Thursday at 2:30 p. m. at Toxey, Berry and Lynch Funeral Home in Elizabeth City by the Rev. George Frank Hill, rector of Christ Episcopal Church. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery. Mr. Bell was a native of Ruds ton, England, and had lived in Elizabeth City for the past 26 years where he owned and operat ed the Carolina Gardens. Surviving are A, Q. Bell, of Manteo, and Ernest V. Bell, of Charlotte, Prince Edward Island, Canada; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FRISCO PERSONALS Mrs. Annie Pellagrami and son of Wilmington, N. C., have been visiting her mother, Mrs. Lorrie Fulcher. Julian and Catherine Austin have moved back to their home. The ex-mayor’s house is growing by leaps and bounds. Mrs. Zelma Brinson is visiting her husband in Norfolk for a few days. The Home Demonstration club met at Mrs. Julia Fandys. Most of the members were present. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Odessa Wasili in May. Ronson and Ella caught sea mul lets late Saturday afternoon surf casting after the net fisherman had given up and gone home. George Austin has reported back to his station after visiting his family. Ralph Ganter is here with his family. Odessa Wasile has recovered from a recent illness. Mr. Wasili has flu. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Gage are leaving for their home in New York after spending the winter here. SOUTHERN ALBEMARLE BOYS IN TEXAS ARMY TRAINING Fort Hood, Texas.—Pfc. Leonard M. McCleary of Manteo, and OFC Franklin D. Mann, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Mann of Columbia, and Sgt. David G. Spruill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert I. Spruill of Col umbia are participating in the fin al phases of Exercise Long Horn in central Texas as members of the Ist Armored Division. Mc- Cleary is the son of Mrs. Lewis McCleary of Manteo; Mann is a grandson of W. S. Sykes of Colum bia. More than 115,000 men, includ ing four combat divisions, are tak ing part in the nation’s largest military maneuver since World War 11. McCleary and Mann are assign ed to the division’s 702nd Armored Infantry Battalion. They are mem bers of one of the Army’s most unique units. The 702nd is equip ped with armored personnel car riers which can transport troops along the lines at great speed and unload them at the first sign of heavy organized resistance. Sgt. Spruill is a member of the Ist Division Headquarters. Don’t miss this delight ful play which has everything.” LEMUEL SCARBOROUGH DIES MONDAY IN MANTEO Lemuel Collins Scarborough, 35, Manteo died Monday, April 14, at his home. A member of Cart wright Memorial Church, the de ceased was the son of Martha J. Wood and Jerry Scarborough. He is survived by his wife, Quinilia Miller Scarborough; one son, Lio nel Scarborough, and one brother, W. R. Scarborough. He was engaged in store busi ness at the time of his death.
