The regular meeting of the
Manteo Home Demonstration Club
will be held at the community
building, October 21 at 2:30 p.m.
Guest speakers will be Miss Betty
Blackwell, Home Economist and
James F. Wellons, Rural Repre
sentative from Virginia Electric
and Power Company, who will give
a demonstration on “Lighting in
the Home.”
The annual Fall County Council
meeting will be held at Stumpy
Point, October 22 at 11:30 a.m.
John Harris, State Horticulture
Specialist, will be guest speaker.
Members are urged to catch 10:15
a.m. Airport fenry. dock.

7:30 a.m. and the 8:15 Ore
gon Inlet ferry. Lunch wilt be
served by the Stumpy Point Home
Demonstration Club at 75(* a plate.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank White and
Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Daniels, Jr.,
are vacationing in Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Rogers have
returned to their home in Elizabeth
City after visiting their son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Marvin Rogers.
Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Ausband
have returned to their home in
Manteo after a trip td New York
City.
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Lowe of Nor
folk spent the week end with Mr.
Lowe’s sister and brother-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Meekins.
Mrs .Annie Basnight is a pa
tient in the Albemarle Hospital,
Elizabeth City. She is expected to
return home the latter part of this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Twiford of
Norfolk visited Mrs. Gladys Brant
ley last week end.
COLINGTON PERSONALS
The Colington Community Club
held its monthly meeting Monday,
October 6th at the Colington
School Building at 8 p.m. Albert
O’Neal resigned as president and
Sylvester Perry was elected to fill
the unexpired term. There is a
Hallowe’en party being planned
for later in the month. During
the winter months the meetings
will be held at 7:30 p.m. instead
o.f 8 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs .St. Clair Gaimel
of Norfolk were here visiting
friends and relatives during the
past week end.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Liverman and
family are spending several weeks
in Buxton where Mr. Liverman is
doing some bulldozer work.

On Friday morning, October 17,
three buses are slated to leave
Manteo for the State Fair in Ra
leigh. This is the sixth year buses
have been chartered and groups of
school children accompanied to the

TO IMPROVE CHURCHES
Swan Quarter Boy Recommended
as Preaching Candidate
The last quarterly conference of
the Swan Quarter-Fairfield charge
met in Providence Methodist
church Oct. 13, at 8:00 P. M. The
budget was raised in full, and ap
proximately $5,000.00 dollars has
been raised for the improvement of
the four churches. Soule Methodist
Church, has $2,000.00 in a building
fund and is expecting to build new
school rooms in the near
future, also a new Hammond or
gan has been installed this year.
Merlin Berry, son of Mr. and Mrs.

recommended to the District Con
ference for local Preachers license
in the Meethodist Church.

NEW YOUTH ORGANIZATION
AT MANTEO BAPTIST CHURCH
The Manteo Baptist Church re
cently organized a Young Woman’s
Auxiliary, under the sponsorship
of the Women’s Missionary Union,
and under the leadership of Mrs.
Hal Daniels. The new group has
been named the Marjorie Spence
Y. W. A., honoring a North Caro
lina Missionary who is doing field
work in Chile.
Officers of the new organiza
tion are: president, Lydia Love
King; vice-president, Lois Pearce;
secretary, Marie Etheridge; treas
urer, Phyllis Quidley; program
chairman, Elizabeth Ann Ethe
ridge; assistant program chair
man, Imogene Shannon; and pian
ist, Ann Krider.

Manteo at seven o’clock in the
morning, the buses will reach Ra
leigh at about four o’clock and

be visited before the group goes
to the fair grounds. The retur%

works display. A special ferry is
j being run across Oregon Inlet
'early in the morning for the Hat
teras bus, in order that the chil
! dren from the South Banks can
reach Manteo in time to leave with
the other buses. Ninety Dare chil
' dren will make the trip this year.

EDWARD LEE AUSTIN, 50,
DIES AT HATTERAS
Hatteras lost another well
known citizen Friday of last week
in the death of Edward Lee Aus
tin, 50. Mr. Austin was an indus
trious and highly respected citi
zen. He was a lifelong resident,
and fishermen, a Veteran of the
Coast Guard.
He died at his home Hatteras
after a long illness. He was a
member of the Assembly of God
Church. Surviving are his wife,
Mrs. Lovie Styron Austin, of Hat
teras; one daughter, Mrs. Alice
Rena Tolson, of Frisco; two sons,
Edward Allen Austin, United
States Navy, stationed in Norfolk;
and Medford Lynden Austin, or
Hatteras; two sisters, Miss Victor
ia Austin and Miss Dezzie Austin;
one brother, Garland Austin, all
of Hatteras ,and five grandchil
dren.
