WSCS of the Methodist Church
will be held at the Church on
Monday at 2 P.M.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Farrow
announce the mariage of their
daughter, Alona, to Seth Carter,
at New Bern. N. C., on Saturday,
July 11th. Mr. and Mrs. Carter
are living in the Harvey Wahab
cottage at Ocracoke. He is sta
tioned in the local Coast Guard
unit here.
Mrs. Dicie Wells and son, John
Ivey 7 , and Miss Isabella O’Neal
have been visiting their sister,
Mrs. Gray Willis at Harker’s Is
land.
Mr. and Mrs. William Ballance,
*of Beaumont, Texas, and his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Bal
lance, and Miss Lorena Ballance,
‘enjoyed a trip and visit at Ocean
City, Maryland.

coke from Portsmouth, since Mr.
Gaskins, USCG, has been re
cently transferred to Honolulu.
They plan to join him there some
time later on. Meanwhile she and
the children are with her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs, Calvin O'Neal.
Jim Williams iis back from a
brief visit in Norfolk.
Henry Ballance is back after
considerable absence in Cuba,
where he has been working on a
dredge. His wife, Doris, and
daughter, Brenda, are smilingly
happj’ at his return.

an annual visit to her relatives

ly at Silver Lake Inn. Mr. O’Neal
has many relatives at Ocracoke.

at the Howard Tourist Home.
Rev. W. Y. Stewart was taken
ill last Friday night, suffering a
slight stroke of paralysis. He was
taken by Coast Guard heliocop
ter on Saturday morning to
Morehead City Hospital. A Sun
day report indicated that his
condition had improved. Mrs.
Stewart accompanied him to
Morehead City.
Mrs. Annie Fulcher and Mr.
and Mrs. Cris Gaskill have as
guests, Mr. and Mrs. Emory of
Chester, Pennsylvania. It is Mrs.
Emory’s first visit in twelve
years, though she has many rel
atives and friends here.
Woodrow Price gets down to
Ocracoke whenever possible and
seems to be enjoying his new
home here. Mrs. Price and the
children are settled down for
the summer and have had as
guests, her sister’s family, and
her mother, Mrs. Wiley Pittman
of Raleigh. Also visiting them,
but staying at Wahab Village
Hotel, are aunts, Miss Louise
Dudley, a teacher at Stevens
College, Columbia, Missouri, and
Mrs. W. O. Shoemaker of Mem
phis, Tennessee.
There are now about 45,000
motor courts to be found along
the nation’s highways, as com
pared to only 15,000 in 1940, re
ports the Carolina Motor Club.
They are increasing at the rate
, of 2,000 a year and gross more
than a billion dollars in tourist
■ trade annually.
