The Willing Workers Class of
the Methodist Sunday School will
meet Tuesday night at the church.
Marvin Howard has been inter
ested in organizing a Boy Scout
Troop here and has made arrange
ments for G. E. Ashwill, District
Executive of the Boy Scouts of
America, and other officials to visit
Ocracoke on Wednesday and Thurs
day, May 19 and 20. There will be
a meeting of prospective scouts on
Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in
the church recreation hall and a
meeting of mothers and fathers of
the scouts on Wednesday night,
7:30 p.m. in the church recreation
hall. If a troop is to be organized,
parents as well as boys have to co
operate in the plans.
The P.T.A. will sponsor a dance
Saturday night, May 22, in the
school recreation hall.
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Boos and
son, Warwick, have returned home
after an absence due to the illness
of Mrs. Boos’ mother, Mrs. H. A.
Vise, in Illinois.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Garrish and
son of Pasadena, Maryland, are
visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charlie W.
Garrish.
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Garrish of
Coinjock brought his mother, Mrs.
Annie Garrish, home last week end
and will spend several weeks with
her.
Mr. and Mrs. Monford Garrish
visited in Norfolk and Portsmouth
last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Evans Styron and
children visited Mr. and Mrs. Eli
jah Styron recently. Mr. Styron
has been transferred from Virginia
Beach to Manteo. Mrs. Styron and
the children will remain here.

Salem has been visiting his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bry
ant.
Samuel G. Jones, Jr., of Norfolk,
has started the construction of his
new summer home at Ocracoke. It
is located on the Lake Shore near
the Lighthouse Dock.
Mrs. Molly Bragg is visiting in
Norfolk.
Woodrow Price of Raleigh was
down for the week end with a
group of sports fishermen.
Miss Mary Byrum of Raleigh oc
cupied her cottage last week end.
She is having renovations and im
provement made at the cottage.
Mrs. Randall O’Neal and son re
turned to Hatteras after a visit
with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Howard.
Mrs. Virginia Austin and chil
dren spent Mother’s Day week end
with Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Stowe at
Hatteras.
Corp. Walter C. O’Neal, Jr., of
Edenton Marine Base visited his
parents on Saturday, returning
with Capt Van Henry O’Neal and
Powers Garrish by yacht to Wash
ington, N. C., where the freight
boat “Bessie Virginia” is up for
painting and repair .

Betty Dean Fearing of Manteo
celebrated her second birthday
Friday afternoon with a party at
the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. M. K. Fearing. The birth
day cake was the center of at
traction, being made like an old
fashioned doll, with a blue and
white color scheme. This was
served with home-made pepper
mint ice-cream to the guests, who
included Mr. and Mrs. M. K.

BIBLE CLASS MEETS
The Hatteras Bible Class met
Friday night at the home of Mrs.
Dalton Burrus with 14 members
present. A discussion of the book,
“Nehemiah” took place. Names
were drawn for “good neighbor.”
Several business transactions were
taken care of and cards sent to the
sick. Mrs. Achsas Burrus and Mrs.
Peggy Austin gave the worship
program. A talk on “Mother’s
Day” was given by Mrs. Achsah
Burrus and a poem “Her Children
Shall Call Her Blessed” was given
by Mrs. Maude Austin. The hostess
served delicious refreshments.

One building permit was issued
last week, to Ernest Etheridge
to erect a one-story building of
asbestos shingles and sheetrock
at Wanchese, SI,OOO.

Janice Butler, who has been ill at
Norfolk General Hospital.
WOMAN'S CLUB PICNIC
IS WELL ATTENDED
With approximately 50 people
in attendance, the Manteo Wo
man’s Club held an old-fashioned
family picnic at Fort Raleigh
Tuesday afternoon. Guests inclu
ded members of the club, their
families, and other invited
guests. Heretofore the club has
held an annual dinner, but de
cided to try the picnic idea, and
now it is hoped to make it a per
manent annual affair.
Mrs. Camille Podolski, retiring
president, was presented a gift
from the club by Mrs. M. K.
Fearing, Jr., as a token of appre
ciation for her work during the
club year.
The final bake sale of the year,
which was held Saturday, May
8, netted the club more than S4O,
which will be used for the club’s
scholarship fund.
