Foster of Bay town, Texas, and Miss Barbara Rae Spencer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis V. Spencer of Colum bia, Route 3, Tyrrell County, were married at the residence of Mrs. Minnie V. West, grandmother of the bride, on Saturday afternoon, March 26th, by the Rev. L. E. Am brose, Free Will Baptist Minister. Doyle Marion Rowell, son of Mr. and Mrs. ,Freddie Rowell of Jacksonville, Florida, and Nancy Gail Fitch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fitch of Portsmouth, Va. were married in Columbia, Saturday March 26th at the Methodist Episcopal Church by the Rev. Earl R. Meekins, Method ist minister. Mrs. Hattie M. Newberry left Thursday to attend the wedding of her grand daughter Miss Har riet Wilson Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Gresham Martin to Irving Fillmore Truitt, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Fillmore Truitt, which took place Saturday 4:00 p.m., March 26th, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Norfolk, by the Rev. Beverly Tucker White, rector of the ehurch, assisted by the Rev. John McKenry, pastor of Ghent Meth odist Church. MALACHI’S OFFICERS ENTERTAIN SOUNDSIDE’S Columbia.—The officers and . teachers of Malachi’s Chapel Sun day School entertained the offi cers and teachers of Sound Side Free Will Baptist Sunday School at a turkey dinner at Carley’s ' Case on Friday, March 25th at ; 7:30, witjj E. L. Mosley, superin tendent as master of ceremonies. The Rev. Joe Fort, of Ayden, publisher of Free Will Litera ture, guest speaker, used as his topic “Relation of Sunday School Teacher with the pupil; what the teacher can offer and how the pu pil could respond”. It was follow ed by a round table discussion on how to increase Sunday School participation and attendance; method of teaching to hold pupils attention and how to capture in terest of older people. It was en thusiastically discussed. Grace and benediction was given by the Rev. James A. Evans, pastor of both churches. The dinner was occasioned by ■ a contest between the two Sunday ' Schools as to attendance at the meetings of Sunday School Teach ers and Officers Training School being held. The Sunday with less attendance was to furnish enter | tainment. Twenty five attended I the dinner. COLUMBIA PERSONALS Miss Reda Godwin spent the week end visiting her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Selby. Friends are happy to see Mrs. Jerry Davenport, who has recup erated from an extensive illness, able to be back at her position this week. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cohoon, spent several days in Raleigh this week visiting their son, Floyd | Cohoon Jr. and his family. A new I son has recently been born to the HATTERAS PERSONALS - Mrs. Ulysses Peele, Mrs. Carlos Peele, Mrs. Donald Oden, Mrs. Luther Austin, Mrs. Nacie Austin, Mrs. Dan Meadows, Mrs. Charlotte Ballance attended the District meeting of the W.S.C.S. in Eliza beth City Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Babson, J. C. Bul lard, Mrs. Homer Wyatt and baby visited Rev. and Mrs. Dan Meadows. Mrs. Homer Wyatt and baby are remaining. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Garrish and baby were home from South Norfolk for the week end. Mrs. Clarence Wardman and daughters Jean and Barbara spent ’ Tuesday in Elizabeth City. Mr. and Mrs. Ernal Foster and son Ernie were in Elizabeth City Tuesday. Miss Delena Styron of Norfolk spent several days with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Styron. Mrs. Dan Meadows attended the International Beauty Convention bold in New York at the Statler Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Peele were in Elizabeth City last week. Mrs. Teeny Burton, Mrs. Ivey Austin and son Tracy spent Tues day in Elizabeth City. Beverly Moss O’Neale and Ran dall O'Neale left Sunday to return to work after visiting their par ents. Herbert Morrison of Kill Devil Hills filled the pulpit at the Hat teras Methodist Church and brought a message on the Symbols of the Cross. He was accompanied by his wife and two sons. He will return Sunday to the Frisco church. Lonnie Powell of Raleigh, who is with the Recreation Center, held a meeting at the Hatteras school building Monday and Tuesday night. Many adults attended. Mrs. Pat Wescott, Bob Smith of Man teo, Dr. and Mrs. Thorpe of Bux ton, Mrs. Edgar Hooper and Mrs. Raymond Basnett. The leader of the Girl Scouts and husband of Buxton attended Monday night. Games were played. The purpose of the meeting was to develop talent to train the youth of the community in a clean and enjoy able recreation. family. Mrs. W. S. Carawan, who is making her home in Raleigh at present, was in town last week. Mrs. Sterling Alexander is ill at her home on Elm Street. Easter services and Holy Com munion will be held at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Easter morning at 7:30 as an nounced by the rector, the Rev. Paul Kluttz. Everyone desiring, is invited to worship and partake of Holy Communion at this service. The American heritage Discus sion Group met in the Tyrrell County Public Library Wednes day, March 30, at 8:00 p.m. with Mrs. C. P. Mitchell Jr. as leader. BUXTON PERSONALS Mrs. James Anderson and daughter, Mrs. Wesley Provo and daughter of Elizabeth City visited their paients, Capt. and Mrs. U. B. Jennette. Mrs. Anderson re turned Monday accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Olive Peeke. Mrs. Provo and daughter plan to stay here and returned home after Easter. Mrs. Janet Finnegan and chil dren of Norfolk visited Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Gray. Mrs. Darrel Jennette and daughter, who have been living in Florida where her husband is sta tioned, has returned home and visiting relatives in Buxton and Avon. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Williams,, baby and Carol Fulcher of Ports mouth spent the week end here with relatives. Lloyd Scarborough visited his son Buren Scarborough in Nor folk. A group from Buxton attended the first meeting of the Rebekah Lodge Monday night in Rodanthe. The white paint back of the stove is never as white as the rest of the room.
