SEABEES (Continued from Page One) From longer back than anybody can begin to remember Hatteras Island has been rejuvenating it self with new blood brought in by successive units of the Federal service and even now some of the best names on the Island are of those who come in uniform, mar ried into native families, and have continued in residence. For a good case in point, tpke Judge James Turner who came down when he was a first-enlistment seaman in the old Navy Radio Compass Sta tion. Now he is in retirement, a lieutenant-commander dividing his time between landscape gardening and the dispensation of justice and mercy. So here is a new list of possibili ties and prospective gone-native Seabees and who can say which one of them may not be, 'a genera tion or so hence, tending his orange trees and minding his grandchildren within sight of the Lighthouse. The roster of the com pany, well here it is— and good hunting to them and to the gal children of the Island: Commanding officer Lt. H. N. Wenke, Brooklyn; Ensign W. R. Here’s one who visited her old home recently, who would surprise you. Mrs. Maulsie A. Phillips spends some of her time here, but her job is in New York, where she works in the home of Guy Lombardo, who is often called the outstanding band leader of all North America. Ac cording to Maulsie the maid, the Lombardos are just tops all around. She is the daughter of the late Richard Pigford, for many years a member of the crew of Pea Island Coast Guard Station. There was a time when she was a baby sitter for the editor of this newspaper before she got to wan dering around, first in Florida, and up and down the coast. She’s going to retire sometime and come back home to live. She has a house on the old homeplace. Bernhard Frietager, Dyersville, Iowa; Robert Gatham, Roselle Park, N.
