PAGE TWO COAST GUARD TRAINING FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES j The United States Coast Guard announced they will enlist high school graduates, who have not had previous military active service in any branch of the Armed Forces, in the new High School Graduate Training Program. This program will enable a high school graduate to be accepted for resident school training and he will be given the rating of SR (X) to identify him in this program. Applicants must have proof sub stantiating that he is a high school graduate, or proof of completion of an eighth grade education fol lowed by graduation from a full four year course in technical voca tional school. Upon completion of basic train ing eighteen petty officer schools will be made available under this program and will include: Elec tronics Technician, Aviation Elec tronics Technician, Aviation Ma chinest’s Mate, Aviation Structural Mechanic, Fire Control Technician, Damage Controlman, Commissary man, Radarman, Storekeeper, Ra dioman , Yeoman, Electrician’s Mate, Engineman, Boilerman, Ma chinest’s Mate, Sonarman, Hospi tal Corpsman, Gunner’s Mate. Friends of Theodore Rondthaler will be glad to learn that Mr. Rondthaler is recuperating nicely after a major operation at City Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Myra Wahab has returned to Belhaven with her father, J. N. Edwards, who has been visiting her for the past few weeks. Mrs. Albert Styron had as her guest Mrs. Laura Goodwin of Ce dar* Island. Mr. and Mrs. Lum Gaskill and boys, Jimmy and Joe are visiting Mrs. Gaskill’s sister, Mrs. Mary Anderson of Frankfurt, Indiana. Mr. and Mrs. Felix Fleig of Newport News, Va. are visiting Mrs. Fleig’s brother, John Gas kill. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Garrish, Jr. and family have returned home for the winter. Ivey O’Neal is visiting his sis ter, Mrs. Ludicier Wells. Mrs. Nathaniel Jackson was a recent visitor in Beaufort. Mrs. Mary O’Neal has returned home after spending a week with hep brother, Adolphus O’Neal of Manteo, N. C. BRIDE-ELECT HONORED Mrs. Barron Daniels, a recent bride, was entertained at a mis cellaneous shower Monday night, July 16th, at the home of Mrs. Louise Cudworth in Wanchese. Miss Laura Joan Daniels greet ed the guests at the door and pin ned corsages on each. Contests were enjoyed and the prizes pre sented to the honoree. A pink color scheme was car ried out in the refreshments. Many friends and relatives were present and the bride received numerous beautiful and useful gifta.
