Steagall, of fice manager of the Tyrrell Coun ty ASC office announces that the allotment of upland cotton for 1958 has been set, and that the cot ton marketing quota referendum, will be held in each agricultural community in the state on Tues day, Dec. 10th. Every cotton farmer who grew cotton in 1957 is eligible to vote, including tenants and share crop pers, says Mr. Steagall. To be effective, at least two-thirds ,of the cotton farmers voting in the ref erendum must approve marketing quotas. If approved in the December 10 referendum, price support on the 1958 crop will be available to eli gible growers at the highest rate allowable under law. If not ap proved, support to eligible farm ers will drop 50% of parity, he fqrther says. Willard Cooper was elected chairman of the Tyrrerl County ASG Committee at the county con vention of Oct. 23. Other mem bers of the committee are R. L. Spriull, Sr., vice-chairman; S. H. Voliva, regular member; J. W. Williams, first alternate; and Harry Lee Davis, second alternate. This committee will take office on Nev. Ist, as announced by Don ald E. Steagall, ASC County of fice manager. TYRRELL SOLDIER GETS ARMY AUTOMOTIVE COURSE Fort Benning, Ga. Rose, whose wife, Katie, lives on Route 1, Bladenboro, recently was grad uated from the ten-week automo tive supervisor course at The In fantry School, Fort Benning, Ga. Specialist Rose received training in tie supervision of motor ve hicles operation, maintenance and recovery. He entered the Army in 1941 and was last stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Rose, live on Route 3, Columbia. PAUL GREEN DRAMA HAD 3 PERFORMANCES THIS WEEK Greenville.—Opening night for a series of three performances by the East Carolina College Play house of Paul Green’s “The House of Connelly” was set for Wednes day, October 30. The play was re peated Thursday, October 31 and Friday, Nov. 1, all performances in the McGinnis auditorium on the campus at 8 p.m. " Pau! Green’s drama was select ed for production by the college dramatics in observance of “Paul Green Year.” soonsored by the American Education Theatre Asso ciation and the Southeastern Theatre Conference. Recognizing the North Carolina dramatist as the nation’s leading regional dramatist, these organizations are encouraging during 1957 produc tion of Green’s plays. In the drama of the South at the turn of the century Douglas Mit chell and Jane Merryman, Green ville students, had the leading roles of Will Connelly, plantation owner, and Patsy Tate, tenant farm girl.
