! Church Saturday afternoon, March
1, at two o’clock. The bride is the
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. W.
Johnston of Manteo and the bride
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
John L. Becaham Sr. of Kitty
Hawk.
R-v. W. E. Cholerton, minister
of the church, heard the wedding
vows which were exchanged in a
setting of fems, white gladioli and
pompon chrysanthemums, arranged
around seven-branched candelabra
• with lighted candles. Mrs. Victor
Meekins, organist, and Wiley War
ren Johnston, Jr., of Oak Ridge,
Tennessee, brother of the bride,
furnished the wedding music. Mr.
Johnston sang “O Promise Me”, “I
Love You”, “Because”, and “Lord’s
Prayer.”
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a wedding dress
of chantilly lace over satin design
ed with fitted lace bodice featuring
a scooped neck line edged with
pearl centered lace medallions.
Long fitted sleeves ended in calla
points over the wrists and the full
skirt extended into a chapel train.
The finger-tip wedding veil was of
imported illusion attached to a lace
hat with a pearl scalloped trim.
She carried a bridal bouquet of
white carnations centered with a
white orchid, and showered with
love knots.
Mrs. C. W. Kirkman of Greens
boro, sister of the bride, was ma
tron of honor. She wore a waltz
length gown of yellow nylon dot
ted swiss styled with a fitted bod
ice, circle neckline and flared skirt.
Her headpiece was a pearl-trim
med velvet headband over a circlet
of yellow tulle, and she carried a
nosegay of yellow carnations bor
dered with bronze chrysanthe
mum's. Carol Kirkman, the bride’s
niece, was flower girl. She wore a
blue nylon dotted swiss dress with
fitted waist, shoulder cape and a
full skirt. Her headband was pearl
trimmed over a circlet of blue tulle.
She carried a white basket trim
med with ribbons and filled with
pink camellia petals.
Mr. Beacham had C. W. Kirk
man for his best man. Ushers were
Gary Scarborough of Kitty Hawk
and William Hamilton of Berkley,
Michigan. >
The bridegroom’s mother wore a
black dacron dress fashioned with
bands of hemstitching, white ac
cessories and a corsage of red
roses.
Mrs. Vernon Davis and W. W.
Tarkington served as mistress and
master of ceremonies.
Following the ceremony the
bridal party received in the vesti
bule of the church. For a wedding
trip through the mountains of
North Carolina and Virginia, the
bride changed to a dress of May
flower blue flannel and matching
accessories. She wore the white or
chid taken from her bridal bouquet
Upon their return, Mr. and Mrs.
Beacham will make their home
with the bride’s father in Manteo.
The bride received her high
school diploma from Wheaton
Academy in Wheaton, 111. After
attending Columbia Bible College
in Columbia, S. C., she entered the
School of Nursing at Presbyterian
Hospital and Queens College in
Charlotte, where she received

completed a four year course in
special training at the Nyack
Missionary College in Nyack,
N. Y. After graduating from
high school in Kitty Hawk,
the bridegroom entered the U. S.
Coast Guard Service and is now
stationed in Norfolk, Va.
Out of town guests attending
the wedding included Mr. and Mrs.
C. W. Kirkman and children, Billy,
Carol and David, of Greensboro;
Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Warren John
ston, Jr., and son Warren 111 of
Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Mrs. Essie

Following the wedding rehearsal
Friday evening, Dr. Johnston en
tertained the wedding party, and
out-of-town guests at a cake-cut
ting at his home. Mrs. R. D. Saw
yer, Sr. poured punch and Mrs.
Essie Swearngan cut the cake.
Mrs. Vernon Davis assisted with
the serving.

The -regular monthly meeting of
the Mt. Carmel W.S.C.S. met Fri
day night at the home of Mrs.
Norman Craddock. The meeting
was opened by the president, Mrs.
Hubert Ambrose, who led the de
votion in the absence of Mrs. Wil
bur Pinner. Mrs. Mabie Twiford
had the program, “Christian Ac
tion on the March,” in - which
everyone took part. Eight mem
bers were present, with one visit
or, Mrs. Herbert Gard of Norfolk.
Refreshments of coffee and cin
namon rolls were served by the
hostess.
Scarborough, celebrated her 6th
birthday with a party at her home
Sunday, March 2nd. Various out
door games were played. Refresh
ments of home made ice cream and
cake were served to the 19 guests
present. The honoree received
many useful gifts.
