Gaskins, chief boatswain’s mate, USN, of Hatteras, is serving aboard the tank landing ship USS Traverse County which re-embark ed the 2nd Battalion of the 2nd Marine Regiment from Beirut, Lebanon, Aug. 13. The Marines, who landed July 15, will be re-embarked aboard ships of Transport Amphibious Squadron 6, commanded by Capt. Victor B. McCrea, USN, of Uni versity, Park, Pa. JOHN GARRISON CLERK IN POSTOFFICE AT MANTEO John T. Garrison, 47, who lives on First Avenue, Manteo, has re cently taken up his duties as tem porary substitute clerk in the Manteo postoffice. Mr. Garrison, who married the former Dorothy Stetson of Manteo, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bart Garrison of Wanchese. Prior to entry on the postoffice job, he worked as a salesman and had served 22 years in the Navy, from which he re tired. He attended Manteo High School where he graduated. STUMPY POINT PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Gaskill Payne and son Paul visited in Norfolk Sun day. Mrs. Geo. Wise, Sr., is convalesc ing from a recent operation. She is with her son, Geo. Jr., in Nor folk. Mrs. Mack Brinn and Mrs. Larry Brinn and son, Larry, Jr., of Ports mouth, Va., visited Mr. and Mrs. Neil Payne Thursday. Mrs. Estelle Wood of Norfolk visited her daughter Mrs. Beaman Hooper. Other guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hooper were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Midgette and soh Don, of Washington, D. C., and Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Hooper, Bobbie and Bettie of Miami, Fla. Mrs. Wilma Midgette is visiting her brother, McCoy Hooper, in Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Spitzer, Steve and Carol of (Damden visited Mrs. Carson Meekins and Mrs. Tom Wise Sunday. The Spitzers are leaving Tuesday for Panama, where Mr. Spitzer will teach. Mrs. Sherill Hooper of Norfolk, Mrs. Claude Wise of Manteo, visit ed their brother, Garland Meekins, and Mrs. Meekins several days. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph O’Neal and Peggy were in Washington, N. C., Friday. Mrs. D. M. Gray is home from E.C.C., where she attended 12 weeks of summer school. Billy Hooper of South Mills visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hooper, Friday night. He was accompanied home by his chil dren, Mike and Debbie, who have been visiting here. L. W. Hooper, Jr., is home from E. C. C. L. W. will teach in the Princess Anne School this year. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Wise visit ed Mr. and Mrs. Leland Wise last week end. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Payne, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wise left Sunday for Brunswick, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Etheridge of Wanchese visited Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Payne Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Carol Payne and son Bruce and niece, Lois Payne of Norfolk, visited Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Payne last week end. Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Midgette were in Norfolk Thursday. Mrs. Ruby Best was in Belhaven Monday. . Kay Bratten of Manns Harbor was the guest of Gracie Best Fri day night. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Webb were in Elizabeth City Saturday. Mrs. Talmadge Best was hostess to the Stumpy Point Woman’s So ciety of Christian Service Monday evening. Mrs. Dan Burgess led the program using as her theme the “Local Church and its Members.” Prayers were offered by Mrs. Ruth Hooper and Mrs. Willie Hooper. “Are Ye Able,” “Have Thine Own Way” and “Blest Be the Tie” were sung. The hostess served soft drinks, nuts and cook ies. The next meeting will be Mon day, Sept. 1, with Mrs. Lou Hooper.
