Coast Guard is entering instruct or’s school in Norfolk for two months, prior to being stationed at Pearl Harbor for two years. THE COASTLAND TIMES, MANTEO, N. C. JOHN V. WARD, MANTEO NATIVE DIES IN NORFOLK John V. Ward, 57, of South Nor folk, Via., a jeweler, died in a Norfolk hospital Monday after noon. A son of Capt. Jesse Etheridge Ward and Martha Goodwin Ward, he was a native of Manteo, and had lived in Norfolk 32 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alvilla Lane Ward; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Ward Johnson; three brothers, Wellington Ward, Ro land Ward and Carl Ward of Nor folk, and nieces and nephews. METHODIST WOMEN ELECTS OFFICERS AT HATTERAS The Woman’s Society of Chris tian Service of the Hatteras Meth odist Church held their first cir cle’s meeting of the new year Tuesday night. The Sally Poe Cir cle met at the home of Mrs. Mar garet Quidley, the chairman. The Jean Meadows Circle met with Mrs. Clarice Gray, the chairman of that circle. The programs were given by Miss Gracie Ballance and Mrs. Inez Austin. Plans were made to have a Bake Sale each Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Also Fish Fry was planned for July 4th. The proceeds will go on the building fund, they hope to pay off by Jan., 1960. The Society has sent 5,000 coupons to the Methodist Orphanage. Officer’s Training Day and Pledge Service has been held.
