Bonner Speaker on Party Achievement Many prominent people of the District participated in the meet ing to the Young Democratic Clubs of Beaufort County Saturday even ing at the Carolinian Hotel, at Nags Head. The Beaufort County Club brought some 50 people to the meeting, and President Fernie Laughinghouse of Pantego, pre sided. The Dare Club' headed by Dr. W. W.. Harvey, entertaihed the visi tors. at a social hour prior to the dinner. Included among the guests were Rep. Wayland Sermons of Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jones of Norfolk and Ocracoke, a Swan Quarter native who Mr. Ser mons introduced as his close per sonal friend. Attorney Hallet Ward Jr. of Washington introduced Rep. Herb ert C. Bonner, the speaker of the evening, who gave an address in which he outlined many achieve ments of the Democratic party. For the second week.in succession, Mr. Bonner was on a fishing trip at Oregon Inlet, where he reported fine luck with bluefish. President Laughinghouse handed out a number of favors drawn by lucky members of the party. The dinner consisted of shrimp, beef, numerous salads, and ended with ice cream and cakes. C. 20 Years Later. . . SAME STATION-DIFFERENT WAGON The setting is the same as 20 years ago but, otherwise, these pictures tell a graphic story of two decades of station wagon development. The photograph at top was taken at the Wyandotte, Mich., New York Central station in 1939 as Chevrolet introduced its first station wagon model—a unit featuring a body made of wood and steel. In contrast below is a 1959 all-steel Nomad with luggage rack, wraparound windows, folding seats, electrically operated tailgate window, dual headlights, etc. A further note on i wa ß°. n history ... in 1939, less than seven out of every 1,000 cars built were station wagons.
