FRIDAY, MAY 20, 1960 CITIZENS CONTRIBUTE 88 PINTS OF BLOOD The Red Cross Bloodbank drive netted 88 pints of blood on Thurs day to top the Belhaven communi ty’s quota. “It was a gratifying experience” said Bill Clagon, local chairman," and I would like to of fer my sincere appreciation to those who left their jobs to help make our drive so successful”. He singled out Mrs. James Younce for “the splendid job she did in organizing volunteers for the visit, and Mrs. M. L. Windley for organizing and managing the Canteen”. Chief Clagon expressed appreciation to all of the people who cooperated in the blood pro gam in anyway. FORTNIGHTLY BRIDGE CLUB Miss Mary Elizabeth Bell enter tained her bridge club and a num ber of invited guests on Thursday night at her home on East Main Street, Belhaven. The playing area was lovely with arrangements of roses, Iris and peonies. Club members playing were Mes dames W. L. Johnston, Andrew Hodges, Frank Keaton, Otis John ston, Paul Dawson, Melvin Lupton and Jule Purvis. Others guests play ing were mesdames W. C. Credle, W. C .Swindell, Sarah Latham, L. R. Smith and William Ellison. High score for club went to Mrs. Keaton, second high to Mrs. Purvis and guest prize to Mrs. Ellison. During play Miss Bell served fruit punch and candies and at the conclusion of progressions she served Frozen Fruit salad with cheese wafers and Bacon Thins. DR. W. F. Striped bass were plentiful early this week near the Croatan Sound bridge Sat urday and Sunday four anglers. Ar vid Johnson, Raleigh, Walter Mas sey and Woodrow Smith, Knights dale and Preston Massey, Gamer, caught 99 stripers weighing from two to five pounds.
