REVISIONS IN ELECTRIC • RATES FOR LARGE USERS The Virginia Electric and Power Company last week announced a change in its residential electric rate to permit customers to take fuller advantage of their electric service .according to A. H. Mc- Dowell, Jr., Vepco President The new rate will become effective June 1. McDowell said that the new rate also is designed to encourage wider use of heat pumps, electric heat ing and air conditioners. “The new residential rate will not affect the first 600 kilowatthours of monthly use, but will represent a consider able reduction in the cost per kilo watthour for all kilowatthours in excess of 600 monthly,” he added. In order to improve electric wa ter heating service to its customers, Vepco also has adopted a new op tional residential water heating schedule, also effective June 1. This means the customer may con tinue on the present schedule for residential water heating under time control or he may take ad vantage of the new schedule, which will provide 24- hour service to his water heating equipment. Under the present water heat ing schedule, Vepco provides a 15- hour time controlled meter on wa ter heating equipment, which con trols the time that heaters may op erate. The charge for this senice is at the rate of 1? per kilowatt hour. The new schedule provides for a charge of 2? per kilowatthour for the first 100 kilowatthours of use and 1? for all kilowatthours in ex cess of 100 for residential electric water heating service. THE OLD GANG, WITH NEW FRIENDS TAKE THE PEOPLE OF DARE FOR SUCKERS The D & S combine now has the nerve to tell the people of Dare County to vote for them. They think the people have forgotten their record when they ran things high, wide and handsome. The D & S combine is a waste ful, reckless crowd, aided by some new friends who have betrayed the people who trusted them two years ago. To elect in one again is to weaken the defense of the peo ple's rights. The D & S combine stands for DEBT, SABOTAGE, SHORTAGE. It is supported by a group in and around the courthouse who draw the taxpayers money for work they ought to do, yet who are anxious to have you vote for peo ple they can handle their own way. Actually they are be ing paid to work against the county's interests. The record shows' they have been doing this. The record 1 shows that under former control of the D & S combine, all citizens and all communities of the county were not fairly treated. These few county employes who think they ought to take over your affairs, expect to keep this kind off Govern ment. The D & S Combine and their supporters in effect call the people DARE'S STUPID SUCKERS. They want to get out of the courthouse anybody who understands any thing about county affairs, and to keep in office some one completely ignorant, or some know-it-all as is now the case, who is in an increasingly constant state of confusion. The D & S combine would 1 DESTROY THE SAFETY OF THE SCHOOLS by Wasting the money for favors to friends. Some of them didn't pay their own taxes, but levy taxes with delight for others to pay and. throw the money away. Some of them maintain communist and socialistic attitudes under a thin coating of pretense to cover up. Does anyone want these kind of people to control raising their taxes all the time and wasting money when they eflon't pay their own taxes regularly. It can't be stopped by staying home on election day. That is the day to nip it in the bud.
