MRS. LOUISE PEELE
Mrs. Louise Day Peele, 61, died
at 10:45 p.m., July 15, at the Albe
marle Hospital after an illness of
three weeks.
She was a native of Hatteras but
had been living in Wanchese for
the past three years. She was the
daughter of the late James and
Saillie Bailey Austin, and wife of
WiUdam Woodard Peele.
Besides her husband she is sur
vived by five daughters, Mrs. La
venia Willis and Mrs. Myrna Ab
bott of Wanchese, Mrs. Matilda
Gibbs of Norfolk, Mrs. Ella Mc-
Pherson of Camden, Mrs. Lila Wil
lis of Texas; one step-daughter,
Mrs. Eilleen Etheridge of Wan
chese; two step-sons, Lauris Peele
of Wanchese and William E. Peele
of Norfolk; one brother, James
Austin of Hatteras and 21 grand
children.
Funeral services were conducted
Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., in the
Assembly of God church at Wan
chese by Rev. Carroll Daniels, pas
tor, assisted by Rev. Charles Eth
eridge, pastor of the Assembly of
God church of Manteo. Burial was
in the Cudworth Cemetery.
“Some Golden Day Break” was
sung by the church choir. A solo,
“God Is Always There,” was sung
by Mrs. Elmo aDniels, Mrs. Rosco
Gallop accompanied at the piano.
The casket was covered with a
pall made of pink glads, white
glads, white carnations and fern.
Pallbearers were Willie Daniels,
Paul Daniels, Bart Garrison, Cor
bet Payne, Earl Tillett and Mal
colm Daniels.
Burial followed in the Cudworth
Cemetery at Wanchese.

Miss Mary Lee Spencer, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Spencer,
Sr., became the bride of A/1C
James P. Smith (USAF) of
Cherry Point, son of the late Mr.

Arthur, Texas.
The Rev. Joseph Lang, pastor of
the bride, officiated using the im
pressive double ring ceremony.
Wedding music was presented by
Mrs. R. G. Baum of Swan Quar
ter. Miss Sandra Gibbs of Engel
hard was soloist. She sang “Be
cause” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.
The ceremony took place before
banked palms and ferns accented
by baskets of white gladioli and
pompons and lighted white tapers.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her brother, R. S.
Spencer, Jr., wore a waltz-length
alencon type lace gown with a
scoop neckline outlined with seed
pearls. Her Juliet veil was attached
to a crown of iridescent sequins
and edged with pearls. She carried
a white Bible which was topped
with a white orchid centered bou
quet.
Miss Mary Long Dudley, cousin
of the bride, was maid of honor.
She wore a street length dress of
baby blue organza over taffeta, a
matching headpiece with a circular'
veil. She was the bride’s only at
tendant. For her bouquet she car
ried white carnations accented with
blue.
The bridegroom had as his best
man, A/1C Kenneth Cook of Rocky
Mount.
Ushers were Walter G. Baum,
cousin of the bride, of Engelhard
and A/2C Robert Cederdahl of
San Diego, California.
The bride is a graduate of East
Hyde High School, class of 19G0.
The bridegroom is serving in
the U. S. Air Force and has been
stationed at Cherry Point for the
past three years.
For the wedding the bride’s
mother chose a sheath dress of blue
lace over taffeta, using white ac
cessories and an orchid corsage.
Following the ceremony the cou
ple received at the entrance of the
church.
For traveling the bride wore a
blue dacron batiste dress with a
bolero, with the white orchid lifted
from her bridal bouquet and
white accessories.
After the wedding trip through
some of the Southern states, they
visited Mr. Smith’s brother at Pon
Arthur, Texas. They will be at
home in Engelhard and Cherry
Point.
Mrs. W. H. Cox was mistess of
ceremonies and Mrs. Juanita Mil
ler was in charge of the decorating.
Immediately following the wed
ding the bride’s parents entertain
ed with a reception at their home.
Mrs-. T: J: Etheridge greeted the
guests. Miss Nancy Baum presided
over the guest register. Mrs. W. C.
Cox, Sr., invited guests to t’
dining room where Mrs. W. H.
Cox, assisted by Miss Myla Baum,
served punch. Cake was served by
Mrs. E. C. Miller, Jr., and Miss Ann
Dudley after the couple cut the
first slices from a three tiered all
white wedding cake with the tra
ditional miniature bride and groom
on top. Guests served themselves
nuts and green and white mints.
The table was covered with a lace
cloth and centered with an arrange
ment of white gladioli and other
white summer flowers flanked by
lighted white tapers. Wedding bells
hung over the table.
Miss Mary Ann Marshall and
Miss Judy Cahoon were at the
bride’s gift table.
WISE’S RED AND WHITE
ENJOYS GOOD OPENING
Fair weather, prizes and money
saving specials brought several
hundred people to attend last week
end’s grand opening of Wise’s Red
and White Market in Manteo. Pro
prietors Willis and Jeanette Wise
stated their pleasure in serving so
many of the homefolk and visitors
during the event, and extended a
welcome for all to enjoy the
specials to be featured each week
end.
Prizes were awarded as follows:
Mrs. Herbert Crees, Sr., Manteo,
the gallon jar of dollar bills, which
she donated to Mt. Olivet Church;
O. T. Gard, Manns Harbor, wrist
watch; Mrs. Madgine Ashby, Man
teo radio; Senie Williams, lantern;
Mrs. R. J. Westmoreland, Wilson,
Mrs. Sandra Ward, chopping block;
men’s set In addition, 100 bags of
groceries were given during the
three-day event.
Specials will be featured over
TV station WITN, Washington,
from 8 until 8:30 p.m. Friday night
for the Red and White chain.
ROAD HEARING IN CRAVEN
FOR EASTERN N. C. PEOPLE
RALElGH.—Citizens of Eastern
North Carolina will have an op
portunity to present road requests
and petitions to the full State
Highway Commission at its August
4 meeting in New Bern to begin in
the Superior Court room of the
Craven County Courthouse at 9:30
a.m.
Persons desiring to appear be
fore the Commission are asked to
write Public Relations Officer Sam
Beard for an appointment.
Setting appointment times ex
pedites the public hearing and
avoids long waiting periods for
those persons desiring to present
requests to the roads body.
The regular business meeting of
the Commission will be held that
afternoon, at which time low bids
from the July 26 letting will be
reviewed.
CONTEST WINNER
Among winners of prize awards
in the “popsicle” Alamo heroes
contest is Russell Leo Chadwick,
740 Old County Road, Belhaven, a
customer of Maola Ice Cr6am Com
pany. The contest required the en
trant to find and color the “Alamo
Heroes” hidden in a picture puzzle.
Young Russefll’s prize is a seven
piece cowboy kit consisting of
Evans Bicycle, Play Tent, Saddle
Gun, Rodeo Guitar, Cowboy Outfit,
Fast Draw Pistols and a “Golden
West” train set.
