AT BELHAVEN District One of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of North Carolina, met at Trin-; ity Methodist Church in Bel-j haven on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock with Mrs. Charles W. ferry, District President, of Kitty Hawk, presiding. Mrs. Thurman Spencer, president of the hostess unit welcomed the guests and Russell Johnston of Post No. 249 brought greetings from the Legion while the Rev. James Waggoner gave the invo cation. Mrs. William Dodd and Mrs. Elwood Midgette advanced the colon. Special music was fur nished by Mrs. Jack Clayton of Belhaven and Mrs. Tillett of Manteo. During the business session, unit reports were heard and the following special guests were recognized: Mrs. J. L. Chestnut, Past Department President of Edenton; Mrs. T. L. Noe, De partment Membership Chairman of Wilson; Mrs. M. L. Windley, Department Civil Defense Chair man of Belhaven; and Mrs. An drew J. Bailey, area publicity chairman of Elizabeth City. They spoke briefly about the work their committees are doing this year. Mrs. Chestnut introduced the speaker, Mrs. Sam J. Welbom, Department President of Thom asville. Mrs. Welbom spoke on the different phases of the Aux iliary program and the prob lems that arise. After the re tirement of the colors the group went to the Legion Hut where the W.S.C.S. women of Trinity Methodist Church served turkey dinner. Mrs. Buzz Cayton en tertained the group with piano selections during the meal. The 1963 district meeting will be held in Kitty Hawk with the Manteo unit as hostess. Units represented were Belhaven, Ed enton, Elizabeth City, Engel hard, Plymouth and Manteo. BELHAVEN FORD MAN TO GET HIGH SALES AWARD David C. Lee, Jr., of Beaufort- Hyde Motor Co., Belhaven, will be presented Ford Motor Com pany’s 300-500 Club reward at a banquet in Norfolk Va., on Saturday, March 31, honoring high-ranking Ford dealership car and truck salesmen of 1961 in the Richmond Ford sales performance. The Ford 300-600 Club was founded in 1950 to recognize tihe performance of outstanding Ford salesmen throughout the country. Mr. Ramsay added that the average 300-500 Club member sold nearly $400,000 worth of automotive merchandise in qual ifying for the national honors. MRS. SPENCER ENTERTAINS On Friday evening Mrs. Ben Spencer entertained her card club and used spring flowers as decorations. Upon arrival the • hostess served cake and ice cream and during cards she serv ed punch and candy. Club members playing were Mesdames Andrew Hodges, W. T. Ralph, W. P. O’Neal, J. H. Purvis, Victor Ruark, Jack Leigh, C. R. Potter, Dave Bai lance, Jr., J. W. Lloyd, Jr., Eu gene Linton. Tillman was hos tess to her card club and Mrs. Leigh Wahafo was high scorer. | Invited guests were Mrs. W. B. ; Voliva, Mrs. Howard Voliva and Mrs. Jesse Taylor. Club members playing were Mesdames Orville Clark, Cl eve Woodward, H. L. Dilday, Jack Leigh, Grady Fussell, David Ballance, Jr., Marshall '-Willis, Leigh Wahab and Charles Midi gette. Mrs. Willis received the low and Mrs. W. B. Voliva the bingo award. Mrs. Tillman served a dessert course and during cards she served iced drinks and light re freshments. Early spring flow ers were used as decorations. MANAGER MOORE LEAVING PUNGO DISTRICT HOSPITAL Lonnie E. Moore, administra ' tor of the Pungo District Hos pital of Belhaven, has resigned to accept a similar position with the new Craven County hospital in New Bern. He will assume his new duties on May Ist. Mr. Moore recently announced an expansion program at Pungo District that will begin in the near future. Only this past week the feder al government announced the ap proval of an allocation of $68,- ' 760 for the work on the hospi tal. Mr. Moore, a Beaufort county native, came to the Pungo Dis trict Hospital from the Beaufort , County hospital where he was , employed as X-ray technician. Mrs. Moore is the former Sadie Rogerson of Williamston and is also on the hospital staff. Mr. Moore has taken an active part in the Belhaven-Pantego Rotary club, post no. 249 of the i American Legion of Belhaven, i the Loyal Order of Moose of Washington, the National Guard, the Beaufort County Cancer Society board of Direc tors; and is chairman of the Boy Scout Committee. 1 BELHAVEN PERSONALS j Mrs. E. LEGIONNAIRES OF POST NO. 349 HOST TO DISTRICT Members of Belhaven Post No. 249 of the American Legion were hosts to 125 Legionnaires of the Third District on Friday night at the American Legion Hut Henry E. Moore, commander, welcomed the visitors and R. S. Pinner, post chaplain, gave the invocation and benediction. District Commander, Ernest Avery of Greenville and Jim Mc- Keel, Beaufort county service officer spoke to the group. ~lt was announced that the Go- Getters banquet would be held in Washington on April 20th. Posts attending the third dis trict meet were Aurora, Green ville and Washington. TRINITY WJ3.C.S. MEETS The W.S.C.S. of Trinity Meth odist Church met in the social hall of the church with Mrs. W. C. Credle presiding. - Plans were completed for serv ing the Luncheon for the Ameri can Legion Auxiliary District Meeting on March 28th. Mrs. R. D. Mitchell gave a program op “Women’s Changing Status” She introduced her guest, Mrs. Mike Miller, a native of Japan. An informal question and answer period followed with Mrs. Miller discussing the cus toms of her country and how they are changing, also the cus toms of places she has lived as a G.I. wife and how they differ with customs and foods here. The hostess served cake and coffee. MRS. NIXON HONORED Mrs. Gene Nixon was honored at a surprise stork shower when Mrs. Edgar Martin and Mrs Floyd Gibbs entertained at the home of Mrs. Martin. Upon ar rival Mrs. Nixon, the former Geraldine Baum, was presented a corsage of tiny blossoms. The hostesses used spring flowers for decorations, carrying out a yellow and white color scheme. The honoree received many at tractive gifts from the 45 at tending guests. A shower um brella suspended from the ceil ing reflected the occasion. The hostess served punch, yel low frosted cookies, ice box cake end salted peanuts.
