WH 3-3061 V— - —————' BELHAVEN IS HOST TO FUTURE TEACHERS The Beaufort County chapter of the Future Teachers of America met in Belhaven Thurs day. Attending also were sponsors; Mrs. Betty Guilford, of Choco winity; Mrs. Mary Peele, of Au rora; Mrs. Mabel Bunch, of Bath; Mrs. Gladys Lollis of Pan tego; and Mrs. Carolyn Lloyd of Belhaven; other special guests were Gray Hodges, ele mentary school supervisor for Beaufort county. Mrs. Flora B. Brown, county guidance super visor; Jack Harris, Aurora prin cipal and presidjent of the Beau fort County chapter of the N.C. E.A. and Miss Nancy Paul of the Aurora schools. Thomasina Smithwick, county president, called the first ses sion to order. A devotion was .presented by the Chocowinity club. Welcome was by I. L. Leary, John A Wilkinson principal. Mr. Hodges brought greetings from the county office. Mr. Harris ex tended greetings from the N.S. EJL The speaker, introduced by Mrs. Lloyd, was the Rev. James Waggoner, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church in Belhaven. His topic was “So You Want to Teach*. A social hour was enjoyed in the Home Economics Depart ment. In the afternoon the host school presented a satire on Shakespeare’s “Julius Ceasar.” Officers elected were Charles Toler, Jr. of Chocowinity, presi dent; Dorothy Long, of Aurora, vice - president; Audrey Pearle Buck, of Chocowinity, secretary; and Carlyle Cayton, of Aurora, treasurer. New officers were installed by the retiring president. Other re tiring officers were Charles To ler, Jr. vice-president; Sandra Tinker of Belhaven, secretary; Judy Spruill of Aurora, treas urer. BELHAVEN SOCIAL EVENTS Mrs. Conway McKinney was ' hostess to her bridge club at ' her home in Belhaven. Mary Costulis was a guest. Club members playing were Mesdames Don Edmondson, Ted Smith wick, Paul Smith, Jimmie Cox, Gene Swafford, Linville Midgette, Ralph Hodges and Ed ward Lee Paul. Mrs. McKinney served apple drops with ice cream and coffee and during cards she served drinks, candy and cookies. Mrs. Edmondson was high scorer and Mrs. Smithwick was low. The hostess used arrange ments of spring flowers. Mrs. Charles Powell was hos tess to her card club Thursday evening and served assorted can dies and iced drinks. Playing were Mesdames Har old White, Charles Smith, Bill Moore, Thorne Paul, J. P. Harri son, Victor Ruark and Mrs. Howard Voliva. Mrs. Charles Smith was high scorer and Mrs. Bill Moore low. Mrs. Powell re membered Mrs. Voliva with a guest gift. EPISCOPAL CHURCHWOMEN EAST N. C. DIOCESE MEET “Go ye, into all the World,” will be the theme of the Episco pal churchwomen of East Caro lina diocese when they meet in their two-day convention at St James Church, Wilmington, Ap ril 25 and 26. The Rev. Robert Smith, missionary in Japan, will speak Wednesday evening. The Rev. David Thomsberry from the Diocese of Ohio will be on the convention program Thursday.
