FRIDAY, MAY 11, 19t62 4-H AT SWAN QUARTER < HOLDS MONTHLY MEET A quiz program about man ners was the featured event at the monthly meeting of the Swan Quarter Intermediate 4-H Club which was conducted last Friday. Mrs. Gilbert Tunnell, program chairman, Jed the 4-H members through a maze of tricky questions about etiquette, to the delight of everyone pres ent. 1 After a business discussion of 4-H Camp and the District Elimination Day at Chocowinity, the members participated in rec reational games which were led by' Cecilia Gibbs, recreation leader. Refreshments of Pepsi- Colas, fudge and popcorn were i served by Cecilia Gibbs, Patricia Harris and Linda Cuthrell. MANTEO PERSONALS Jack Kellogg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kellogg, returned home this week from the Albe marle Hospital, Elizabeth City, where he had been a patient. . Mrs. R. S. Meekins, who has ■been living in Norfolk with her daughter, Mrs. Judson Payne, spent last week at her home near Manteo. Mr. and Mrs. Payne and son, Howard, were with her for the iveek end. Erwin White of Hampton, Va., spent last week end with his ■ mother, Mrs. Grace White. Sgt. Lloyd W. Walker, U. S. Marine Corps, Mrs. Walker and their sons, Wayne and Michael, have been recent guests of Sgt. Walker’s mother, Mrs. Doris Walker, before leaving for Long Island, N. Y., where Mrs. Wal ker and children will make their home while Sgt. Walker is over seas. Miss Patty Gibbs, formerly of Manteo, was recently elected vice-president of the Inter national Relations Club at Guil ford College, Greensboro, where she is a student. Then grad ually add thawed, undiluted orange juice while beating. Stir in nuts and sugar. Prepare top ping mix according to package directions. Fold into cheese mix ture. This will become quite stiff. Spoon into prepared pan. Chill overnight. To unmold, lift out of pan with foil. Cut into slices. Makes 5 to 6 servings. Store left over portion in re frigerator. This stores well for several days. EAST HYDE SCHOOL HAS MAY DAY, AND PTA MEETS The East Hyde High School ■ P.T.A. met Tuesday night. Mrs. Linwood Gibbs presided. Rev. Lucas gave the invoca tion. A program was given by the first, second, third, fourth and fifth grades. It was announced by the prin cipal, Mr. Bucklew, that during the year several items were bought for the school, such as science equipment for all the, grades and an inter-com. Mrs. W. H. Hurdle ahnounced that there would be a piano re cital by her pupils on May 15, at 8 P. M. in the school audi torium. ' The president installed the following officers for the next year: President, Mrs. Earl Pugh; Vice President, Mrs. Roy Lowe; Secretary, Mrs. George O’Neal; Treasurer, Mrs. Jimmie Spencer. May Day was held at East Hyde High School on Friday night, May 4. The May Day Queen was elected by the entire 1 student body by secret ballot, I Reglyn McKinney, a Freshman, was chosen May Day Queen.
