PAGE EIGHT • CAPE HATTERAS SPOTLIGHT V i The Beta Club of Cape Hat teras School had a wiener roast Friday night to welcome. a new Jinember, Mary Kay Whitehead, Into the club and as a farewell party to two members of the school faculty, Mr. Roy Styron, ninth grade homeroom teacher, and Mrs. Roy Styron, first grade teacher. On Saturday night, May 19, the seniors had a dance on the outdoor basketball court. On Sunday night, May 27, the baccalaureate service will be held in the school auditorium at 8:00 p.m. The Reverend Van Cash of Hatteras Methodist Church will give the address. He will be assisted by Reverend Johnson and Reverend Wright Os Avon, and Reverend Raynor of Buxton. “ Monday night, May 28, at 8:00 p.m. the seniors, will have Class Night. Donna Gray will read the Plass Prophecy, iSusie Midgett will read the Last Will and Tes tament, Sandra Gillikin, will read the Class History, and Jo Anne Wingate and Jack Capps will present, the gifts. After wards, the class will present a short skit. , The Commencement exercise will be on May 80, at 8:00 p.m. Ray L. Jones, Professor of Busi ness at East Carolina College will give the address. The valedictorian with a grade Os 97.77 is Sandra Gillikin. ; The Salsitatoriin with a grade of 97.16 is- Vivian Robinson. MRS. EFFIE BRITTAIN . IS BURIED SUNDAY Mrs. Effie Riddick Brittain, *7B, a former resident of Suffolk, Va., died Friday in a Raleigh hospital after illness of several months. She was a daughter of Mills ■Jarratt and Mrs. Ella Franklin Riddick of Nansemond County. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. P. D. Midgett Jr., and a son, Jack Riddick Brittain, both of Engelhard; a sister, Mrs. J. flrooke Pruden, and a brother, Mills A. Spi vey, Director of State Missions for the Baptist State Conven tion of North Carolina address ed the congregation on Sunday morning with a sermon entitled “The Pinnacles of Love.” More than 250 townfolk and visitors from every denomina tion joined the local Baptists on Sunday afternoon for a picnic and afternoon sing, as a climax to the annual homecoming day celebration by the church. C., Saturday.. v A native of Buxton and a resident of Washingon 38 years, she was a daughter of Isaac L. and Hosanna Williams Jen nette. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Washington. Surviving are three daugh ters, Mrs. Blanche May of Wen dell and Mrs. Bonnie Fletcher and Mrs. Mary Eastwood of Norfolk; a son, Ronald M. Stowe of Washington; a sister, Mrs. H. J. Gray of Buxton; a broth er, Junius Jennette of Bux ton; three grandchildren and ax great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Sunday at 3 p.m. an Oden Funeral Home by the Rev. Claude G. A Dedication Service was of fered by the minister Sunday morning for the set of flags presented to the “Little Grove” Methodist Church, by Mrs. John Austin in memory of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Blanchard. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Ware had as their week end guests Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Galusha of Kinston. Mrs. George Austin is visiting in "Virginia Beach. Mrs. Minerva Tolson is visit ing in Hatteras with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Inge Wick em ployed in Norfolk, were home for the week end. Mrs. Nellie Willis and daugh ter arrived home Monday after a visit with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Wirth Haley re turned to Richmond Sunday, af ter spending several days here. Parks, Jr. has announced' the schedule of events for Roanoke High School’s graduation and bac calaurates. exercises. The bac calaureate sermon for the three graduating seniors who are Sarah Midgett, Edna Wash ington and Joseph Vernon Far row, will be delivered by Elder J. R. Whitaker, pastor of the Grace Discipe Church in Bel heaven. Principal ‘ Parks 'has indicated that the baccalaur eate sermon will be given in the Roanoke High School Auditor ium on Sunday, May 27 at 3 p.m. Graduation services, which will be conducted by Mrs. Mary Evans, Superintendent of Public Instruction, have been schedul ed for Monday, May 28 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. Diplomas will be presented to the gradu ating seniors at that time. The Roanoke Class of 1962 has chosen red and white as their class colors and selected the slogan "Not finished, just begun” as their class motto. The familes of graduating seniors and their friends have been invited to attend the two commencement exercises. MRS. WILLIE GREEN DIES IN NORFOLK Mrs. Willie H. Green, 68, of Norfolk, Va., died Thursday in a Norfolk hospital. A native of Columbia, N. C., she was a daughter of' Henry and Mrs. Eliza McClease, and the widow of’ David Green. She was member of Usher Board 2 of First Calvary Bap tist Church. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Mann of Manteo, and Mrs. Eliza Brickhouse of Nor folk. A funeral service was held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in First Cal vary Baptist Church by the Rev. C. E. Griffin, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. REUBIN SMITH DIES Reubin Smith, 64, died at the Albemarle Hospital Tuesday morning. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Smith of Ridgeville, S. C. He resided in Manteo for a number of years prior to his death. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine Smith of Man teo; one daughter, Mrs. Edith Simmons, and one grandson, George Simmons of Ridgeville, S. C . Funeral services were held Thursday at 3 o’clock at Hav en Creek Baptist Church in Manteo by the pastor, the Rev. Horace Moore. Interment was in the family plot.
