DRESS REVUE WINNER Reglyn McKinney of Engel hard was selected winner of the Annual 4-H Dress Revue held June 1, in Swan Quarter. Reglyn, winner of the Senior Division, will represent Hyde County at District Elimination Day in Chocowinity on June 15. Mary Sears was second place winner. The Tar Heels Afloat will rendezvous at Che River Forest Manor in Belhaven, Friday, June 8’ A steak and shrimp cookout supper will be held at 6:00 p.m. The day’s activities will con clude with dancing on the patio'. On Saturday the group will tour Lake Phelps Farm and the Hid den Lake retreat for the men. The ladies will enjoy a bridge party. During the afternoon enter tainment will take place on the dock followed by a social hour at 5:00 p.m. The banquet will be at 6:30. The speaker will be DY. James Butler, assistant public relations director for East Caro lina College. A dance will close the evening. Sunday at 10:00 A.M. the Skippers will elect officers. MATCHA PUNGG CLUB WINS NATIONAL AWARD The Matcha Pungo Garden Club of Belhaven has been noti- i fied that the Purple Ribbon Award was made to the club at the recent National Convention I of Garden Clubs held in Los Angeles, California. Only two of I these awards are given in any state. j The award was made for the flower show given by the club in November, 1961. The Matcha Pungo has pre viously received recognition throughout this area for the ex-I cellence of its flower shows. The winning show was staged under the direction of Mrs. Vann Latham, general chairman; Mrs. W. E. Bateman, Jr., and Mrs. Rad Jones; Miss Loyce Brinson and Mrs. Sarah Latham, club president. RETIRING TEACHER FETED Mrs. Helen Byrum, who is retiring from the teaching pro fession after 25 years, was hon ored Wednesday at a party given by her fellow teachers at the John A. Wilkinson school in Belhaven. Mrs. Grace Lupton made a few appropriate remarks; then presented a gift of luggage to Mrs. Byrum from the faculty. The refreshment table was covered with an embrojdred linen cloth and held an arrsinge ment of Queen Anne’s lace, foses and lupine. Mrs. Thelma Dawson served punch. Ribbon sandwiches cheese biscuits, and a variety of party cakes were also served. EAST LAKE PERSONALS Mrs. Betty Berry is a Colum bia Hospital patient.
