The total refunds for 1957 amount to over $32,000. In dividual refund checks Vary in size from very small up to al most $500, 'With the average check amounting to over $12. As a member-owned rural electric cooperative, Woodstock onerates on a non-profit basis. The amount which would be a profit in other tj’pes of business is a margin in an electric mem bership corporation. This mar gin is refunded to the coopera tive’s member-ownei'S in the form of capital credit refunds. The delay in refunding capital credits is necessary because Woodstock must maintain a re serve fund in case of emer gencies. Woodstock Electric Member ship Corporation is locally owned and controlled by the people who receive electric service from the cooperative. The continuing objective of the cooperative is dependable elec tric service at the low'cst cost Consistent w'ith a sound fi nancial operation. The president of Woodstock Electric Is D. TWO CHANNEL BASS CAUGHT’.FROM HATTERAS .PIEF SALVATION ARMY SETUP DESCRIBED FOR LIONS BELHAVEN — The work of the Salvation Army was de scribed for the Belhaven Lions Club Thursday by Capt. Clyde Beasley of the Washin^on unit of the famed organization. The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in London by William Booth. It is a religious and charity group and dispenses the gospel without regard for race, color, or creed. The Salva- .tion Army is a militaiy type, of organization in that it relies heavily on efficiency and dis cipline. Thfe Salvation Amy oixsrates disaster units and makes itself known during ti.atural disasters. Beasley noted that Belhaven has knb»*n the services of the Salvation Army especially dur ing hurricanes. The anny has distributed food, clothing, and other necessities of life. Beasley sakl the Salvation Amy also operates homes for ,unw^ mothers, child care cen ters, summer camps, and sen*- icemen’s homes. In Beaufort county, the S'alvation .\rmy has a camp near Washington.
