Jewish War Veterans Organized in 1896, the Jewish War Veterans is the oldest ac tive veterans organization in America. Charlotte has had a Jewish War Veterans Post for a number of years and it is named after the late Samuel Sansweet who activated the organization. Rabbi Israel J. C^rber has served as Commander for the past half-dozen years. Its activities are many, as, for example, promoting legislation affecting veterans, community service activities, and spon soring programs and projects dealing with issues of Jewish communal concern including Israel, the PLO. the Middle East, oppressed Jewry and com bating anti-Semitism at home and abroad. As a veterans organization, the JWV is able to lobby in Washington without restric tions on issues of concern to Jewish veterans. It counteracts activities of the Ku IQux IQan and the American Nazi Party as when it planned a march in Skokie, Illinois. Jewish veterans are en couraged to become part of this national movement by sending a $12 check made payable to the Samuel Sansweet JWV Post 765 to Rabbi Gerber, 5727 Riviere Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28211.
