Ha Lailah Chapter BBW Ha Lailah Chapter B’nai B’rith Women has been busy this summer with community volunteer service projects, meml^rship socials and preparing for this month’s general mefting. On June 28, four residents of Hunter House and their babies were Ha Lailah’s guests at the Gert- zman’s home. The girls participated in a swim party in water exerdses directed by the JCC’s water instruc tor, Abby Hoffman, and also en joyed the refreshments provided by Ha Lailah members. Another pool party is planned for the early part of this month. On July 6 and 13 chapter members “cleaned up” the Hebrew Academy for the next school year. Sue Brodsky, Barbara Bernhardt, Mary Gordan, Ann Abel, Peggy Gartner, Patti Weisman, Gayle Nordin, Rozanne Sklar, Florence Widis and Cookie Pollack made the Academy “shine” with the help of Bob Bernhardt, Mark Weinglass and Mike Shapiro of the Academy board. Princess Cleaning Service donated the supplies. On July 9 a carload of toys was delivered to the Center for Human Development. This is a continua tion of the Chapter’s toy drive begun a year ago. Toys are col lected on a regular basis and delivered to the Center as an on going C.V.S. project. On July 13 a “Sundae-Monday Party”, a welcome to newcomers social, was held at the home of Stephanie Seitlin. If you were not contacted for this social (this ap plies to other than newcomers as well) and are interested in joining Ha Lailah BBW call Susan Sachs (364-1922). The next meetins will be on August 17 and will begin with a program on self-defense led by members of the police department. Appropriate responses to threaten ing situations will be demonstrated. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center. This will be followed by a general meeting at the home of Jane MacEntee; refreshments will be served. The Mid-Atlantic Regional B’nai B’rith Women’s Conference In Bethesda, Maryland on May 16-18 was attended by the following members of Charlotte Chapter: Vicki Hopkins, Terri Cathcart, Arlene Shapiro, Sally Winokuer, Iris Spil, Susan Bruck, Joan Gor don and Miriam Wallace. The seminars on the disabled and effects of cults in our society were excellent and gave the attendees many ideas to bring home to our membership and community. Bondarama Winners of Temple Israel Sisterhood’s Bondarama were: Mr. & Mrs. Mark Weinglass, $9(X) Israeli bond; Mrs. & Mrs. Ben Jaf fa, Jr., $430 Israeli bond; Pearl Emma, $1(X) USA bond; Paul Edelstein, S1(X) USA bond. The ten $30 USA bond winners were: Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Kodsi, Mr. & MRs. ONLY The . chapter also won many awards. In programming first place awards were received for best com prehensive community service and for best all-around chapter meeting programming. A second place was given for the chapter bulletin “Women Alive” iri the com munications category. Susan Bruck, Lorri Barman and Terri Cathcart received the Silver Menorah award for bringing in five or more life members. The chapter was also recognized for meeting its membership goal for the year, meeting its allocation by December, 31, 1980, and for exceeding its financial responsibility, the Chai certificate. Desk officer awards were as follows: treasurer’s award, Donna Apple; financial secretary, Fran Novak; recording secretary. Congratulations are extended to our chapter’s sisters and special friends in Ha Lailah on their awards in fund raising, programm ing, membership and projects. Community CalendMr On June 4 the representatives of all Jewish Organizations and Temples met at the JCC in order to reserve dates for social and educa tion events on the community calendar that Charlotte Chapter sponsors. Please remember that the purpose of reserving dates is to eliminate conflicts which might otherwise make your events less successful. When planning future events please contact Joan Goldsmith at 364-4624 (home) or 373-8728 (bus.) to avoid any conflicts. Radiothon Charlotte Chapter participated in a Radiothon on WSOC F.M. spon- sord by the Easter Seal Society. The Radiothon was held in order to raise money to send needy hand icapped children to camp.
