Pag* 17-THE NEW8-S«ptMnb«r, 1M2 ORT ChariotteBBW HmLmUmhBBW BB Lodge Women’s American ORT (Organization for Rehabilita tion through Training) is an organization involved with raising funds to support a global network of vocational and technical schools. Open meetings are held the tliird Wednesday of each month. The Charlotte Chapter had their installation dinner at the Pewter Rose Restaurant on June 9. The new officers for 1982*83 are: President, Lois Smith; Vice Presidents, Debbie Fields, Dorothy Shapiro, Susan Shapiro and Arnell Greenberg; Treasurer, Lynn Cojac; Financial Secretary, Ann . Sharif; Bulletin Editor, Ellen Satlof; Recording Secretary, Lois Ajinsky; and Corresponding Secretaries, Pam Silberman and Mary Dubin. After the ceremony an informative and in teresting talk was given by Shoshana Ravivi, a former Israeli ORT school teacher. Other summer activities included two new member ship teas at which Lois Smith, President, presided. ORT also sponsored two bake sales in August. The first general meeting of the year will be held on September 15. All current, new and prospective members are invited to at tend. The theme will be “A Taste of Israel" and several Israeli specialty dishes will be sampled. The meeting will also feature an informative update on the dedication of the new ORT ‘ School of Engineering on the Hebrew University campus in Jerusalem. The October open meeting will feature an ex citing program on color and HappineM It -— Having a Jewish Social Service Department! More details about this meeting will be described in next month’s article. Other ORT functions for the coming year include sponsoring the Senior Adult Luncheon in September at the JCC, and sponsoring an on-going Aluminum Recycl ing Project. ORT is asking the community to start sav- ing flattened empty aluminum cans such as used for soft drinks and beer. Drop-off locations for deposit of the cans will be listed next month. On Oc tober 16 a Progressive Din ner for Couples will be held. In December there will be another delicious Lox Box Sale; a Las Vegas Night is being planned for January, and an Art Auction will be held in March. We volunteered to assist Charlotte Lodge of B’nai B’rith with the Bloodmobile they sponsored on August 22. A very important date to remember is October 6, the day of our annual Personal Giving Luncheon. ALIVE, a course for women dealing with the issues of our times, will begin in October. WCICOMC Party For Students On Sunday September 5, 1:00 p.m. a students welcome picnic will take place at the LUBAVITCH RESIDENCE 6500 Newhall Rd. in Charlotte. All Jewish students from local cam puses are invited to par ticipate in this event and en joy good Kosher sandwiches and refreshments. Beth Shalom August 27 was the Bat Mitzvah of Faye Seigel, wife of Rabbi Robert Seigel. It isn’t often that a Rabbi has the pleasure of officiating at his own wife’s Bat Mitzvah. Rabbi and Faye are now liv ing in Charlotte. The summer activities began with a membership tea held at the home of Barbara Ber nhardt. Approximately 35 potential members attended and spent an informative evening learning about the many facets of B’nai B’rith Women. On July 31 a lovely pool party was held at the home of Lori and Saul Wojnowich; members and their husbands enjoyed exotic fruit drinks and delicious hors d’oeuvres. During the month of August the general board meeting was held at the Great Wall of China on Montford Drive. The meeting was followed by a cooking demonstration and discussion on the prepara tion of Chinese cuisine. Members are looking for ward to their Personal Giv ing Evening scheduled for the first of October. The September meeting of the Lodge is being moved to the JCC due to arrangements for the high holy days at Temple Israel. The meeting will still be September 16 and will begin at 8 p.m. The October meeting will be held again at Temple Israel beginning at 7:30 p.m. for Minyan and the meeting immediately after. All members of the Lodge are in vited to attend. Monte Carlo The Charlotte Lodge will hold its annual Monte Carlo Gala on Saturday evening, November 20. This year pro mises to be bigger and better than last year. There will be more details to follow in the upcoming months, so please be on the lookout for them along with discount coupons for admission.
