Page 19-THE NEWS-December, 1984 Charlotte Chapter (Continued from Page 18) Pumpkins and tapes were also presented. The tapes are used to oc cupy the children while en route to tests or to pass the time of day. They include poems, nursery rhymes and stories for all ages. Special Olympics At no other time can one pin be so important as when a “special" child rolls the bowl ing ball down the lane. November 2, the chapter assisted with the “Special Olympics" at Centennial Lanes by keeping score and helping the kids keep the ball rolling. Gobble^ Gobble Arosa House has always held a tender spot in Charlotte BBW’s heart. On November 22, we gave thanks together at a Thanksgiving dinner provid ed by chapter members. The full course dinner was for the Arosa House staff, the children and their entire families. November Meeting Nov. 28 was the date that members attended a Weight Watcher’s Brunch at the Trianon Condominium Clubhouse. It was also a Bow- making Party for the Gift Wrap Booth. Members were taught how to properly “tie the knots” by Terri Cathcart. Many thanks go to Sharon Gold for coordinating the program. Gift Wrap The chapter is “wrapping things up" again this year at the East Mall of Cotswold Mall, as the Gift Wrap service is offered to mall shoppers. Money from this annual fund raiser goes toward BBW philantl^opies. This service is being offered December 7*24; the booth will be open during Mall hours. — Cheryl Simons Ha Lailah (Continued from Page 18) Many members volunteered their time and energy to set-up and promote the information booth. For more information on this program call Brenda at 364-9338. Safety Awareness Nov. 7, Ha Lailah, in con junction with JCC, sponsored a Safety Awareness Day for over 35 children in the Charlotte community. The day was planned as a part of the JCC’s vacation mini-camp pro gram. Children were informed of the various safety practices to help them in their daily lives. A police officer went over some general safety pro cedures and discussed the best methods for children to handle strangers. As a reward for the campers’ patience and good behavior, he allowed them to explore his patrol car and then distributed coloring books. A more active part of the day was a visit from a local karate instructs who led the children in a series of self-defense exer cises. The film “Alone at Home” was shown. This focus ed on “latch key” children and explained safety practices for children when they are at home without adult supervis ion. The day ended with a delicious snack provided by Ha Lailah. Chanukah Baskets Ha Lailah will be sponsoring Chanukah baskets. This an nual project provides special families in the Charlotte Jewish conmiunity with a lit tle additional support during the upcoming holiday season. Members collect food and prepare the baskets which are then distributed by Social Ser vices of Charlotte Jewish Fed eration. Donations of food or money are being accepted to assist Ha Lailah in providing for these families. To make your contribution call Sara Schreibman, 542-6594.
