It supports the B’nai B'rith Children's Home in Israel, the Anti-Defamation League, B’nai B'rith Youth Organizations, Hillel. Locally, the chapters help various com munity volunteer service projects including the Older Adult luncheons. Charlotte has two active chapters of B’nai B'rith Women: Charlotte Chapter which meets during the day and Ha Lailah Chapter which meets at night. Charlotte Chapter is involved with Tape-A-Story, ‘Alive' classes, Arosa House, Dolls for Democracy, Sick Loan Chest, Special Olympics, amblyopia screening and ‘CULT'awareness. Ha Lailah Chapter sponsors the Judaism Institute and par- ticipates in the children's libraiy, the Relatives, the BBYO “Responsibility Forum," Hunter House, Child Find, Children's Safety A wareness Day (latch key chil€iren), and makes holiday baskets (Rosh Hashanah, Passover and Chanukah) for specif Jewish families. Every Jewish woman, young or old, should be a member of one of the chapters. Dues are only $20 a year. Hadassah Will Sponsor Concert Charlotte Chapter Amblyopia On Oct. 23, Cheryl Simons, publicity chairwoman of Charlotte Chapter BBW, made a TV appearance on WBTV's “Top O’ The Day.’’ Barbara Stutts interviewed her concerning the amblyopia screening in the Charlotte preschools. Amblyopia (lazy eye) screen ing began Oct. 24-25 at Cove nant Presbyterian preschool with approximately 60 children screened. To date, seven preschools have been scheduled with an estimated 600 children to be screened this school year. Pumpkins On Oct. 26, BBW members “dressed up” for Halloween and presented stories and poems on tape and decorated pumpkins to the children’s unit at Memorial Hospital. Susan Coen flitted eu'ound as “Tweetie Bird” while Linda Binnick, as the evil “cat,” chased her. Meryle Elko was positively frightening as a “witch.” The group visited the children’s floor at Presbyterian Hospital on Oct. 29. Beth Linderman ruffled her feathers as “Tweetie Bird” with Linda as the cat and Meryle as the witch again. (Continued next Page) Ha Lailah Chapter Membership Dinner On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Ha Lailah will hold its annual membership dinner at the home of Carol Homer, 3901 Charmal PI. It will be a “spud party” (potato bar with all the ingr^ents to create delicious stuffed potatoes). The even ing’s theme will revolve around the chapter’s many community volunteer service projects and activities. Com mittee chairwomen will pre sent a fashion show and “model” and explain the various functions of their com mittees. The dinner is open to all who are interested. RSVP to Lynn Sheffer, 365-8790. Child Find On Oct. 25 and 26, members of Ha Lailah were stationed at a booth in Eastland Mall to promote Child Find, a nation wide program, the purpose of which is to register children for a national data bank that will serve to locate these children should they become lost or missing. Brenda Manes, Wendy Rosen and their committee organized and planned the project, which in cluded the booth which featured the Child Find kit, safety information and color ing books from the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Police Dept. (Continued next Page) Cornelius Sullivan On Sunday, January 13, 1985 at 4 p.m., at Temple Israel, Hadassah will sponsor an evening with Cornelius Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan will sing your favorite selections, spiced with his wit and knowledge. He has appeared in concert at such well known concert halls as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. This joyful, upbeat event is open to the public with no ad mission charge. It is being underwritten through the generosity of Aetna Life and the Charlotte Opera. Junior Youth Group Opens Up Their Membership All Jewish seventh and eighth grade students are in vited to participate in the new ly revitalized Temple Beth El Junior Youth Group. Meetings will be once a month with the members helping to plan and carry out the various activities of the group. Ad visors are Mike and Kay Yaffe and Lisa Vernon. The first ac tivity will be a Chanukah din ner party on Sunday, December 16, to be held in the Fellowship Hall of Temple Beth El. Reservations are re quired.
