Page 12-THE NEWS-November,1986 In And Ar Celebrate Jewish Book Month This year’s celebration of Jewish Book Month, being held Sunday, Nov. 16, 3-5 p.m. at Shalom Park, will honor the late Harry Golden, Charlotte’s own literary giant, long-time editor of The Carolina Israelite, and colorful peirticipant in the civic and Jewish life of Charlotte during the ’50s and ’60s. Displays of Golden’s work will be exhibited, a film reviewing his life and major works will be available for viewing and a noted speaker will address Golden’s impact upon the literary life of the Southeast. Local Jewish writers, Judy Goldman, Jay Jacoby, Steve Fishman and Robin Hemley will be on hand for an inform^ “Meet the Writers” session. There will be music, story tell ing and crafts for the children. A display from Ma’ayan, a well spring of Jewish books, will offer many books for sale. Representatives from Black Forest Books, a local book seller, will discuss their Jewish book selections for children. “One who increases books, increases wisdom.” Celebrate with us! Viva Klezttier! “Jewish jazz” with Viva Klezmer! will be presented at the “J” on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. The Viva Klezmer group is comprised of Gene Kavadlo, his wife Ali Kavadlo and their friends Mike Mosley and Leo Bjorlie. Fleur Paysour, music critic for The Charlotte Observer, describes Viva Klezmer’s performance as “...music that’s likely to have you dancing in your seat.” Tickets for the performance will go on sale at the JCC in mid-November. Cost is $4 for JCC member, $6 for the general public, $2 for senior citizens and children under 12. Patron tickets are available for $20. Bring the whole family! En joy Viva Klezmer! We will be offering a mini-session of classes begin ning at the end of this month. Our next full session of youth programs is scheduled to begin the second week in January. Please pass the word to your friends! We 2u*e pleased to announce that the “J” is now the official sponsor of the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization in Charlotte. This organization will serve as the J’s teen pro gram in conjunction with our newly formed Teen Council. B’nai B’rith Youth is open to any interested 9th-12th grader in the community. The pur pose of BBYO is to provide an opportunity for the Jewish youth in our community to in volve themselves in Judaic programs, community volun teer service projects, and social and recreational programs. In Charlotte, we currently have two BBYO Chapters. Our B’nai B’rith Girls Chapter is Chai Chaverim. Alison Goodman is president. The AZA Chapter Mickey Barach Aberman, has Bobby Pesakoff as president. The advisors for this chapter are Bobby Dam- sky and Daniel Levine.
