But now there’s a good reason to rise and shine — the Consolidated High School (also known as Hebrew High) program. With a revamped cur riculum, the students’ main problem will be to select courses from the wide palate of electives. There’s something to appeal to everyone’s in terest and imagination! The first session students can choose from journalism, music, ecology, conversational or Bibliced Hebrew, Jews and Politics, Holocaust, and Yid dish. During the second and third sessions additional courses, such as ethics, literature, and drama will be offered. Each grade will also have two core courses per session (some courses continue throughout the year, and some change each session). The 8th graders will study Torah (concentrating on the theme of leadership) and the history of Israel The 9th gradois will study Compara tive Judaism and Comparative Religion; they will learn about Tzedakah, followed by East European and American Jewish History. The 10th graders will have their Confir mation class and study Mishnah, Talmud, and Responsa. The 11th and 12th graders will learn about “Be ing Jewish on Your Own” and Comparative Judaism and Religion. By being in this program, our teens can interact with students from the entire com munity in class and through special events. They will also have the opportunity to par ticipate in special programs on issues of importance to teenagers, such as AIDS, drugs and teenage suicide. The school, formed last year, is a joint venture of Temple Israel and Temple Beth El V’Shalom for Jewish teens from eighth to twelfth grade. This cooperative program enables maximum use of com munity resources for the pur pose of providing quality education and broadening social contact among our young people. Please contact Eleanor Wein glass, director, at 366-5007 for further information.
