The News - November, 1994-Page 19 the Jevnsh CooKDimny Cenren SINGLE'S BREAK THE FAST This year's Break The Fast was held at the home of Arthur Lavitt. More than 150 people enjoyed the feast under the tent in Arthur's backyard. Although it was somewhat dark, every one quickly finished the variety of food brought by the partici pants. Many thanks to: Arthur, Margie Rolnick, Shari Jenner, Sheryl Ross & Stuart Napshin. Teen Beat... Rollerblading— 6-8th grade When school is out, the JCC is open! 6, 7, and 8th graders, are going rollerblading on Tues day, Nov. 8th, 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Bring a bathing suit and a dairy lunch. If you have rollerblades, bring them if they are indoor use only. At the rink, we will provide a drink and a snack. Cost: $28/members, $33/ non-members. Pool Party—6-8th grade Grab your suits and get ready! Spend a Saturday night swimming with friends at the JCC. We provide snacks and lifeguards, you provide the fun! Saturday, Dec. 10th, 8:00-10:00 p.m. Cost $5.00/ members, $7.00/non-members. Bring a friend! Riding and Tye-Dying Spend a half day at Misty Meadows Farm learning about horses, grooming and horse back riding! Afterwards, bring a tee-shirt or anything else you want to tye-dye! Long pants (jeans) and hard soled shoes are a must. Bring a dairy lunch. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1994, gam-4:00p.m. Cost: $38/mem bers, $45/non-members. Juggling and Magic Clinic Leam basic magic, juggling and balloon-twisting skills from Jim Purcell, an accomplished magician. After practicing your craft, amaze your friends and work parties! B'nai B'rith Youth Organization (BBYO) is setting up for its an nual Winter Cultural contest convention. This year. Winter Cultural takes place Fri.-Sun., Nov. 18-20 at the JCC. Charlotte's 2 BBYO chap ters, Mickey Barak Aberman AZA and Chai Chaverim BBC, will open up their homes to their friends from all over North Carolina and Southwest Vir ginia, bringing in approxi mately 150 people. BBYO chapters compete in such areas as chapter cheer, song, oratory, banner and more. This year's contest chairpersons are both Charlotteans, Shara Grifenhagen and Casey Neumann. College Bound On Thursday, Nov. 3rd at 7:00 p.m., college admissions of ficers from Queens College and UNC-Charlotte will be holding a discussion on What Colleges Look For. Bring your questions and leam what the college of your choice is looking for! Free. How to Pay For College is a big concern for many people. Student loans, grants, scholar ships—it can get very confus ing! Come talk with Curtis Whalen, Director of Financial Aid at UNC-Charlotte and leam more about what resources you have available. The Newcomer's Connec tion is offering an opportunity for everyone to meet those new in Charlotte. Our first event in October, opened up the JCC's Health and Recreation Department on a Saturday night. The gym, health club, pool, tennis courts and fit ness center were available for everyone to use while socializ ing. This month's Connection is planned for Saturday, Novem ber 19. We'll be doing some JNF's NFL Kicks Off A New Season While the National Football League (NFL) ushers in its 75th season, it welcomes two new Jewish players to its ranks. Jay Fiedler (QB, Philadelphia Eagles) and Perry Klein (QB, Atlanta Falcons). The Jewish National Fund's very own NFL (National Future Leadership) is hard at work too, creating new programs for its members as they welcome in their own 5755th year. The men and women of JNF's NFL recognize the pride the Jewish community has in such athletes as All-Pro Harris Barton (RT) of the San Francisco 49ers; 10-year veteran Adam Schreiber (OG) of the Minnesota Vikings; Alan Veingrad (OT) of the Super Bowl champion Dal las Cowboys; Brent Novoselsky (TE) of the Minnesota Vikings, and all the other Jewish NFLers.
