At age 57, New York film critic Joel Siegel became a father for the first time and learned that he had cancer. EXiring this emotional time, he was very open about his illness, publicly discussing his fight against cancer and what it meant to him as a new father. In his latest book. Lessons for Dylan, Siegel shares all the things he wants his son to know, including his Jewish heritage. “If you fight bagk and get hit, it hurts a little while: if you don’t fight back it hurts forever,” says Siegel in one of his many pieces of fatherly advice to his son. A native of Los Angeles, Siegel graduated cum laude from UCLA. Before his career in television, he worked as a radio newscaster, book reviewer for the Los Angeles Times, freelance writer for Robert Kennedy and advertising copy writer/producer, where he invent ed ice cream flavors for Baskin- Robbins.
