The Charlotte Jewish News - June-July 2005 - Page 2 JEWISH^ FEDE^Fy^TION^ Local, Global, Eternal Your Federation Dollar at Work The Jewish Preschool on Sardis Federation News JEWISH^ FEDERATION^ Local, Global, Eternal The Jewish Preschool on Sardis, less than a mile from Shalom Park, is open to all Jewish children and provides a warm,^ happy environment where each child’s unique style of living, learning, and developing is valued and nurtured. The Jewish values that are shared include honoring parents, sharing with friends, treat ing each other with respect, and giving to or helping those less fortunate than themselves. The Jewish Preschool on Sardis recently was awarded a two- have doubled over the last two school years. Help from the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte ensures that children who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend JPS can. As a sign of this dedication to the chil dren, over 75% of the families at JPS have con tributed or volun teered with the Federation, parents and grandparents hold positions on the Federation Board, and the Preschool’s own Policy and Finance Committee has con- _ The three-year-olds at the tributed 100% to the year grant from Preschool on Sardis Federation. They also have a new playground thanks to the pre school families and other impor tant donors. However, scholarship needs JPS’s commitment to the Federation’s cause and to their own. They know how important it is for these children to be able to attend their preschool. The Jewish Preschool on Sardis offers a variety of services for their children. The PTO sponsored programs like Bubbes ^ow Best, an occupational ther apist, a nutrition expert, teaching about Jewish holiday customs, and more. Also, the educational programs for the one to five-year-olds differ in content but are developmental- ly appropriate and share the same high quality education. Judaica programs add an important part to this curriculum. The children develop a love and pride in the Jewish religion, as well as learn about traditions and holidays, Torah stories, and introductory Hebrew. A high-qualified staff is also important in creating a quality environment for the children. Teachers continue in higher-edu cation learning to increase their own capabilities and their knowl edge in teaching to set the highest possible standards for the Preschool. They come from all over the country, sharing their experiences with the children and each other. Two goals that stand above the rest at JPS include maintaining the health and safety of each child. The second goal is that children have a positive, successful experi ence in a flin, loving, and nurtur ing environment.
