Ben Stein to Speak at Queens College
Ben Stein is a commentator for
FOX News and Yahoo! on
finance, a commentator on human
interest stories for CBS Sunday
Morning, a commentator on
retirement planning for PBS’ Wall
Street Week, a columnist on eco
nomics for The New York Times’
Sunday business section, and this
just scratches the surface.
But you probably know him
best for his long career on the big
and small screen. He made him
self famous with the words,
“Bueller, Bueller” and “ ... any
one, anyone ...” in Ferris
Bueller’s Day Off, and his scene
in that movie was voted one of the
fifty funniest scenes in movie his
tory in a major on-line poll. His
long-running quiz show. Win Ben
Stein’s Money, ran for more than
900 episodes. He is the author of
thirty books, including the major
best seller How To Ruin Your Life
and the more recent Can America
Survive. He also introduced
Jimmy Kimmel to an unsuspect
ing but grateful world. If your
eyes are red and need to be clear,
you might also know him. He has
been in dozens of movies and was
a recurring character on “The
Wonder Years” and on “Star
Search,” but what he really likes
best is speaking to people and
meeting new friends.
An author many times over, his
latest books include The Gift of
Peace: Guideposts on the Road to
Gleibeman's

Ben Stein will be in Charlotte
on March 22 at in Dana
Auditorium, E.H. Little Fine Arts
Center, on the Queens University
of Charlotte campus (1900

event begins at 7 PM. Tickets are
$20. For more information or to
purchase tickets, you may visit
www.queens.edu/leamingsociety
or call 704 337-2458. His topic
will be “Ben Stein on Life.” Ben
Stein is a profoundly unique indi
vidual who has had the good for
tune to have “been there and done
that” in a myriad of professions
that many of us only dream about,
see on television, or read about in
the news. Always entertaining,
always informative and possess
ing expertise in everything from
law to laughs, Ben Stein will leave
you with useful insight (if you
want it) or simply great memories
of a fun time had by all.
Camp Mindy’s 2007 season
starts off with its annual registra
tion for LJCC members on
Sunday, February 11 from 9 AM-
noon in Lemer Hall at the Levine
Jewish Community Center. Our
exciting Camp Katan (for
preschoolers) and Traditional '
Summer Camp Programs are from
9 AM-4 PM Monday through
Friday. In addition. Camp Mindy
offers for children in grades 2-5
grades, AM care from 7-9 AM and
PM Care from 4-6 for parents who
need that extra time and flexibili
ty during the day. Specialty camps
are also back. From our ever pop
ular “Flag Football/Basketball,”
“Mad Science,” or “Dance Fever,”
to our newer additions “Hocus
Pocus,” “Southern Jewish
Cooking” and more. The summer
program is filled with activities
and events targeted for pre
schoolers to 5th graders all cen
tered around the 2007 theme
“What Do We Stand For?
Building Character through
Personal and Community Values.”
This fun, educational, and
activity-packed summertime pro
gram has been increasing in popu
larity. Last year, the day and spe
cialty camps filled quickly.
Registering early ensures that
your child has the opportunity to
experience all that the summer
can offer and make memories that
will last a lifetime. Non-member’s
registration begins after March 1
and the fun-filled Open House
will be held on Sunday April 22
from noon-3 PM at Camp
Mindy’s beautiful state-of-the-art
facilities in Shalom Park.
For those of you with middle
and high schoolers, this year’s
LJCC Summer Teen Program
(grades 6-9) offers to be the most
adventurous yet. Week-long
camps offer everything from
sports related activities exercising
the body to those exercising the
mind or spirit. “The Great Water
Escape” takes teens to Tennessee
for a wild ride on the Nolichucky
River as well as experiencing our
more local wet and wonderful
water parks of the area; “Mitzvah
Camp” offers teens the opportuni
ty to volunteer in local projects
and for local agencies benefiting
the community while upholding
Jewish traditions of making a dif
ference; and look for the return of
the popular “Beach Bum” trip, as
well as “GirlThreads 2007.”
Check out this and more in this
year’s special poster insert in the
Camp Mindy brochure.

Republican Jewish Coalition,
Charlotte Chapter
About 30 people came to the first meeting of the Charlotte chap
ter of the Republican Jewish Coalition on January 11. Jeff Epstein
spoke to the group and the members also had an opportunity to
socialize.
“It’s vital that our community seek balance in our political rela
tions,” said Epstein. “We want a voice with Republican office
holders. ... When we need to sensitize them, we want them to hear
it from friends and supporters.”
Radio talk show host Jeff Katz was also in attendance. “I know
there were some who wondered whether we’d have enough for a
minyan,” said Katz, “but I’m happy to report we did many times
over.”
“So much for holding the meeting in a phone booth,” quipped
Epstein. “We have a lot of interest from people who could not
attend that night.”
