The Charlotte Jewish News - August 2007 - Page 3 JEWISH FEDERATIONT NEWS ^ Federation Welcomes Sarah Kaplan BLG Summer Get-Together i i i The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte is pleased to welcome Sarah Kaplan as the newest member of the Federation team. Sarah joins us as the new Community Relations and Israel Affairs Coordinator. Sarah grew up in Cleveland, OH. She graduated with honors from Indiana University with a B.A. in Jewish Studies, a minor in Hebrew, and an honors area certificate from the Liberal Arts and Management Program. She spent a year in Israel on the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism’s Nativ: College Leadership Training Program. There she spent time studying at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and living on Kibbutz Sa’ad. Sarah has been actively involved in volunteer efforts through the Cleveland Jewish Community Federation. She has experience as an intern in the overseas department where she assisted in Partnership 2000 pro gramming as well as mission planning to Cleveland and to Israel. She has spent the past two summers as a staff member on United Synagogue Youth (USY) Eastern Europe/Israel Pilgrimage where she led six week heritage and culture tours for high school students through Budapest, Poland, Prague, and Israel. Sarah was also active in AIPAC’s CORE College Israel Advocacy Training program through Indiana University. Sarah has traveled and lived extensively in Israel and has experience in Jewish leadership through multiple Jewish organi zations on campus as well as through Camp Ramah Darom, United Synagogue Youth, and the Jewish Community Federation. Sarah’s responsibilities as Community Relations and Israel Affairs Coordinator include mobilizing the Jewish Community Relations Council and initiatives relating to Israel. These include Sarah Kaplan organizing missions, our Partnership 2000 relationship with Hadera, and overseeing the Community Shlicha. Sarah is thrilled to be able to exhibit her love of Israel and passion for local causes and is looking for ward to making the Charlotte community her home. Six months into the sixth class of the BLG, Adina and Josh Loewensteiner hosted a sum- Women’s Trip to Poland and Israel The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to bond and travel with a group of women from our partnership community in Hadera, Israel. Fifteen women from Charlotte will join fifteen women from Hadera for a five-day trip to Poland and a week-end of home hospitality in Hadera. A short sightseeing tour around Jerusalem will follow before heading home. During the trip preparation activities, the two groups of women will bond through shared learning experiences and discus sions.
