The Charlotte Jewish News -May 2008 - Page 13 Beth El Honors Jonathan Howard at Summer Shabbat Service, May 30 at 6 PM Jonathan Howard One simply needs to open the book of Numbers to know the challenges of leading our people. Hardly a portion goes by without our complaining. Unable to imagine the better place where we were going, we challenged Moses every step of the way. “Why did you take out us of Egypt?” we called out in frustration. While leading the Jewish com munity is easier today, it still comes with its challenges as our community members want our Shalom Park institutions to shine in every way. For the past two years. Temple Beth El’s President Jonathan Howard has led the Reform congregation with much of the same patience, passion, compassion and devotion of the Biblical Moses. As a result of his leadership, Beth El is stronger spiri tually, professionally and financially. Jonathan Howard has been an anchor and a steadfast source of strength carry ing the congregation through its Capital and Endowment Campaign. He has been a visionary, involved in the countless hours, days and months of designing the soon-to-be renovated and renewed Temple Beth El. He has been a guide, being a part of the search committee that selected the major ity of Beth El’s current clergy and professional staff. He has been a community player, an ever-present participant in the programs of Shalom Park, and a support to so many of our Jewish professionals. Mazel Tov to the Temple Beth El Anshei Mitzvah Class of 2008 On Saturday, May 3, eleven special adults will be called to the Torah on the occasion of their Anshei Mitzvah.
