Menaker & Rodney, DDS 2711 Randolph Rd., Suite 205 704.377.250v3 CJDS Welcomes Grandparents and Grandfriends Grandparents and “grand friends” enjoyed fun filled festivi ties at Charlotte Jewish Day School (CJDS) on May 8. Honored guests enjoyed a gour met soup and salad lunch and decadent desserts to die for. Appetites sated, students and visitors took part in the Butterfly Project by painting beautiful ceramic butterflies. The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath taking exhibition, currently sched uled for spring 2012, for all to remember the innocent children who perished in the Holocaust. The day was topped off with a talent show put on by CJDS rising stars in grades Junior Kindergarten through Eighth. The students brought down the house with poetry readings, singing. dancing, instrumentals and a comedic song and dance number performed by the middle school boys, reminiscent of a Broadway musical. We’d like to thank all our par ents and grandparents for allowing us to be a part of their children’s lives, creating precious memories for years to come. ^ i Charlotte Jewish bay School Mitzvot at the Jewish Preschool on Sardis (Continued from page 15) display—this time lining the halls of the preschool—also reinforced the lesson of mitzvot. In conjunc tion with the first annual “Mitzvot with Moms” event, families of students in the 3 s dug into their closets and pulled out a total of over 275 pairs of gently-worn shoes to donate. The collection, housed in the school’s hallways, will go to the non-profit organization, DeservingSoles, which provides footwear to needy areas in Southern Africa. The timing of this mitzvah coincided with the period when the Jewish people were walking through the desert for 49 days on their way to receive the Torah at Mount Sinai. JPS hopes that their mitzvah will make the journey for children in Southern Africa—^who often walk for miles barefoot to and from school—a little easier ^ ^ thgjewish _p Preschool on Sardis Hundreds of donated shoes will travel to Southern Africa to help those in need.
