The themes of family and faith, honor and dishonor, passion and power provide a rich exploration of our people and ourselves. The instructor is Rabbi Yossi Groner and the classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9 PM. October 11-January 24. The Holocaust as Reflected in Diaries and Memoirs (10 lessons). Journey into the world of Jewish individuals and communities as the events of the Holocaust unfold around them. Students explore the profound record of first-person accounts in diaries and memoirs uncovered in the years since the Holocaust, and gain remarkable insights into the struggle for life as both young and old writers descriptive day to day life coping Israeli Literature as a Window to Israeli Society (10 lessons). This course of study offers a fresh and fascinating examination of Israeli society since the birth of the State in 1948. Through the pens of its leading writers, partici pants encounter an Israeli society that is original, contemporary, honest, and proud. Reflections of the mythic Israel are matched by poetry and prose that is challeng ing and self-critical, and both offer profound insights into the Israeli national psyche. Instructor: Tair Giudice. Mazal Tov! ^ The Classics are Coming Film Society 2012-13 Classic films are always in vogue and never more than now, when the silent film. The Artist, won the Oscar for best picture. This year, the Jewish Film Society of Charlotte has chosen to screen four classic films that are sure to A scene from Agreement” “Gentleman s Hearts (1922) with live musical accompaniment by award-win ning pianist Ethan Uslan. Sunday, December 2: The Impossible Spy (1987) Sunday, February 17: Crossing Delancey - Special 25th anniver sary. All films will be screened at 5 PM in the Sam Lemer Center for Cultural Arts. The Jewish Film Society of Charlotte is co-sponsored by the Levine-Sklut Judaic Library and the Charlotte Jewish Film Festival. Admission price to each film costs $5 per person or if you purchase a pass for all four films, the cost will be $14. Tickets and passes will be available at the door or in the library. If you are watching them for the first time or the tenth, the experience is always better to share with a community of film lovers. Please join us and bring a friend. ^ please.
