The Charlotte Jewish News - April 2014 - Page 23 Levine-Sklut Judaic Library and Resource Center Holocaust Survivor, Eva Mozes Kor, to Visit Charlotte The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning Come to Taste of Melton on April 29 The Levine-Sklut Judaie Li brary will be hosting Holoeaust survivor, forgiveness advoeate, and publie speaker Eva Mozes Kor on Sunday, May 4 at 2:30 PM at Temple Israel. Her leeture, “Triumph of the Human Spirit, from Ausehwitz to Forgiveness,” is free and open to the publie. Following her presen tation, Eva will hold a book sign ing. Powered by a never-give-up at titude, Eva has emerged through a life filled with trauma as a bril liant example of the power of what the human spirit ean over- eome. She is a eommunity leader, a ehampion of human rights, and tireless edueator. After her family of six was transported to the Ausehwitz Nazi death eamp, she and her twin sis ter Miriam were the only sur vivors, subjeeted to human genetie experimentation under Dr. Josef Mengele, the “Angel of Death.” After Ausehwitz was lib erated in 1945, they returned to their native Romania before mov ing to Israel in 1950. There, Kor met her husband, fellow Holo eaust survivor Miehael Kor, and the two eventually made their way to Terre Haute, IN. In 1995, Eva opened CAN DLES Holoeaust Museum and Edueation Center in Terre Haute, with a mission to prevent preju- diee and hatred through edueation about the Holoeaust. CANDLES, whieh stands for Children of Ausehwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Ex periments Survivors, has edueated thousands of people, ineluding many sehool groups, about the Holoeaust. Eva will also be speaking at Duke Family Performanee Hall at Davidson College’s Alvarez Col lege Union on Sunday, May 4 at 7:30 PM.
