THE PIEDMONITOR November 1, 195L Page 5. was in the area, located the craft and led it to a safe landing. Pillsbury later refueled and de parted for Quonset Point.” - LYNCHBURG - C. W. Russell Something we never expected to see; A college girl, who goes to Sweet Briar College here, is the owner of an air travel card! - Clyde VAUGHAN’s five year old girl had to undergo an operation several days ago and we certainly are glad to report that she is doing fine. = Been having some bad weather over in ROA for the last few days. Getting along much better this year than last year, however, because of much better facilities to handle the situation. Norvel VANDERGRIFT got his first taste of it. - Getting on back up to our old record for days with out a mail mishandling, as of October 21 we have gone 69 days without one. The old record was 80. = CINCINNATI =■ T. R. Cowen George JEWELL, of TWA, has been transferred to STL and we have a new manager at the air port, Mr. J. KNAPPER. We welcome Mr. Knapper and wish best of luck to George. - We would appreciate any comments you may have on the space status report on the airlines out of CHI which is being sent daily. Just keep in mind that this is not a space availability, but merely an indication of what you may expect on your requests for space out of CHI to the West. One problem we have been having is the failure of some stations to cancel space when the passen ger no-shows at the field. On the 28th TWA held their flight 840 for 20 minutes for our 51 be cause we showed 2 DAY and 4 TOL passengers as connections. After they had held the flight it turned out that only the 2 DAY were on boards the other 4 TOL had never been cancelled. You may be sure we heard from TWA. We would appreciate knowing of any lengthly delays anyone is experiencing in getting an answer on space requested of CVG. The best way to let us know is when the service message is sent please add *‘Orig. Reqd. at (time and date).” We will hold these messages and check with the other airlines after a few have accumulated. In this way I believe we can get better service on the requests, - As for personalities and humorous news we have none to report at this time. Even VAN METER has been staying in CVG, so no excitement has taken place, but we do have a party coming up soon. These parties are nice but the aftermath is sometimes disastrous. >|c sic ^ See FLIGHT Magazine, October issue, dedicated to Local Service Airline Operation. On Page 26 you will find an interesting article written by President Tom DAVIS, entitled “Why We Need a New Short Haul Transport.” 5{s ❖ ^ - FAYETTEVILLE - George S. Ake We, the FAY gang, wish to dedicate this Section of the Piedmonitor to Bob and his “Yankee Wife”, whom we will miss very much indeed. Bob is a great friend and efficient Station Manager, and we wish him all the success possible in his new career in the Marine Corps. To Allyson and the children we wish to say: “Don’t worry about Bob - If FAY didn’t kill him the Reds can’t. Thanks to you, Allyson, for being the charming and patient hostess at our many parties.” - We wonder why AR and JD rush off to SOP on their days off - could it be they are reading the same “Page”? We hear that A.R. has the inside track with his hopped up Model A, but we could be wrong. - Dot and Lillian are really on the ball with Res. Dept.
