EXECUTIVE OF THE MONTH I ■I- ..■ii f «iw». t»'% ROBERT S. NORTHINGTON Vice President-Fixed Base Division One of Piedmont's most personable executives is Bob Northington, Vice President- Fixed Base. Born in Richmond, Virginia, Bob's family migrated to California when he was four. He grew up in Los Angeles, attended UCLA, and finally the University of Arizona. When he groduated, he entered the life insurance field as a supervisor with the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance in Los Angeles, where he remained until enter ing the Air Corps in 1942. Bob was assigned to CPT here at Piedmont, and after completion, went through Cadets, graduating in January of 1944, with his coveted silver wings. In November, 1945, Bob came to Piedmont, and shortly thereafter was appointed Assistant to the President. In January, 1947, he was elected Vice President and Director of Piedmont Aviation, in which capacity he has served ever since. His primary function is to direct all activ ities of the Fixed Base Divisions of the Company, both in Winston-Salem and Norfolk. His many activities have certainly kept him busy. To mention a few. Bob has been on the Executive Committee of the National Aviation Trades Association for five years, was President in 1952, was President of National Air Taxi Conference in 1951, served as special consultant to the Defense Air Transportation Administration in 1952. He is now serving his second term as President of North Carolina Aviation Trades Association, and is Distributor Vice President for the Aviation Distributors and Manufacturers Association. Bob is married to the former Mary Louise Rousseau, of Winston-Salem, and has a son. Bob, Jr., and two daughters, Anne and Jane. His principal hobbies are flying, hunting, and fishing. Bob has attacked his work with a vengeance ever since he has been here. You can't go into a field east of the Mississippi where his name isn't well known. Out of town a great deal, when at his desk, he is usu ally surrounded by mountains of papers, and, sans coat, busily engaged in clearing the decks. Bob's vitality, personality and friendliness have proven assets to Piedmont many times over the years. UNITED FUND RESULTS Piedmont's share of the 1955 United Fund campaign was completed November 2, with 89 percent of Winston-Salem employees contributing 79 percent of the campaign goal. Of the 17 departments into which our drive was divided, 12 had 100 percent participation. These were: Sheet Metal Shop, Airlines Stores, Fixed Base Stores, Radio Maintenance, Inspection, Pilots, Reservations, Ticket Counter, General Office, Fixed Base Operations, Communi cations, and Accounting. Two groups which came very close, and deserve a pat on the back, were Airline Maintenance with 97 percent and Accessory Overhaul with 95 percent. Walt Rollick, Chairman of the Drive, was strong in his praise for Archie Ferguson and John Rehder, INT-M, whose splendid assistance made our fine showing possible, and, as Walt made clear, the real heroes of the Drive were the Department Chairmen who did the actual solicitation. The col lection of $3,037.90 was the largest ever made at Piedmont, as was the number of employees contributing, 344 out of 385. The Piedmonitor's congratulations to Walt Rollick for his fine management and to each of his co-workers for their wonderful cooperation. They were good to him when he was a kid. His mother like to toss him in the air. It would have been fun if she had ever caught him. -4-
