Premium holiday extended All employees enrolled in the Supplemental Life Plan were previ ously notified of a premium reduc tion and a premium holiday for this plan on September 30, 1987, and an extension of the premium holi day on February 8, 1988, The premium holiday has been ex tended again. All employees en rolled in the Supplemental Life Plan will receive free coverage through December 31, 1988. All newly hired employees whose coverage became effective on or after November 1, 1987, will also receive free coverage through De cember 31, 1988. This is also true for any employee who has been ap proved for coverage through the evi dence of insurability process in order to obtain this coverage since October 1, 1987. The premium holiday will be re viewed late in 1988 in light of the changeover in benefits to those of USAir. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Employee Benefits at telephone extension PLAZA 8405, Although Piedmont had a 21 percent growth in man-hours worked and a 15 percent increase in departures in 1987, our employee safety record for the year was one of the best in the industry. Tto honor the employees involved in obtaining that record, a Piedmont Airlines Employee Safety Award program was established in 1986. On hand for the presentation of the awards for 1987 were (1 to r) George Mason, vice president- maintenance and engineering; Jim Swartz, director-ground safety; Harlie Gordon, staff vice president-base mfiintenance; J.P. Rich ardson, president of lAMAW; Bill Crowson, co- chairperson of the safety committee; A1 Beamon, director-maintenance control and technical services: and Mike Herron, chairper son of the safety conmiittee. Gordon accepted the Speedbird Safety Award for ROA-MM which worked the most mim-hours and recorded the best perform£ince rating. Richardson repre sented EWR-MM which worked the most man- hours without a lost-time injury. Beamon accepted the award for MIA-MM which had the most improved lost-time performance. Mason represented the maintenance department which had the best overall safety performance in the Company. Other maintenance locations with no lost time injuries during 1987 included ATL, BOS, BUF, EWR, FAY. JFK, MCO, MEM, RDU, ROC, SDF, SYR, and the GSO Avionics Shop. IWenty-nine stations reported no lost-time injuries during 1987: AGS, AVL, AZO, BGM, BTV, CAE, CHA, CHO, CMI, ELM, EVV, EYW, FWA, GNV, GSP, HTS, ILM, ISO, ITH, LYH, MEM, MSP, ORH. PBI, PVD, SAV, STL, TYS, and UCA. BNARO and general aviation at BLT and INT were also recognized for their accomplishments. Additional Speedbird Safety Awards were pre sented to the following stations in passenger services: RDU for working the greatest number of man-hours and exceeding performance goal; ILM for working the most man-hours without a lost-time injury; and DFW for the most im proved lost-time injury performance. MIA cater ing received the award for the most improved lost-time performance. Among the flight atten dant bases, SYR worked the most hours and recorded the best performance rating. ntehining Canada Aero-Marine has an eight-day, seven-night cruise aboard the Bermuda Star from New York to Newport, Sydney, Bonaventure Island, Perce, Gaspe, Saguenay Fjords, Que bec, and ending in Montreal. Sailing dates are July 23, Au gust 6 and 20, and September 3 and 17. Similar cruises depart from Philadelphia on June 11 and 25, July 9, and October 1. Cruises also available originating in Montreal with stops in Quebec, Saguenay Fjords, Halifax, Mcirtha’s Vineyard, Fall River, and finally, New York. The sailing dates are July 16 and 30, August 13 and 27, and September 10. Sailing dates with a return to Philadelphia are June 18, July 2, September 24, and October 8.
