Monday evening chamber music con certs by candlelight were last season's surprise hit at Brevard and should be even more popular this year. Three Pops Concerts on alternate Saturday evenings remain a popular family offering.. Adding to its well-earned reputation as the '‘Summer Cultural Center of the South", the Brevard ifcic Center will broaden its cultural range this summer with a series of major art exhibits weekly throughout the season and an ex panded program in dance and other areas of the performing arts. On any given night, surprises and inno vations await visitors to Brevard. Brevard Festival performances on seven consecutive weekends are the mainstay of the I^sic Center season, while daily concerts on weekdays feature the highly tal ented student-faculty organizations of the liisic Center. Among these groups are four orchestras, two bands, a chorus and a dance com pany. Under the general direction of the American conductor, Henry Janiec, the Brevard Miisic Center stresses education allied with performance. Over 300 students aged 12 to 25 from virtually every state in the nation enroll each stmimer for intensive musical train ing under a highly professional faculty drawn from symphony orche stras and universities throughout the United States, Unlike most major summer music festivals, Brevard is a non-profit educational institution. Its main performing organization, the vir tuoso Brevard Miisic Center Orches tra headed by Henry Janiec, boasts members from many of the principal U.
