Student cooperation in cafeteria

Well, 1 think that it is time that I do a little bit of explaining
here. It stems that la.st week, several people got quite upset
because of the name placed at the bottom of the article found
under the editorla/. Because of the confusion and discussion, I
have decided to explain what is happening and why.
The article was written bj a certain John Roberts, whom, after
immediate subsequent investigation, was not found to be on the
school rolls. There is a good answer lo whatever questions may be
raised concerning this. John Roberts does not exist. John Roberts
is a psuedonym for a student who wishes to write articles for the
Collegiate when those articles could get him or her [it isn’t
necessarily a male) in a heap of trouble with the administration or
Student Government Association, or who knows who-all.
This dues not mean that Juhn (or Jancj does not want to tai<e the
credit or blame for the articles. It merely means that discussion
will be much more helpful if the person’s name is kept out of the
conversation. In other words, instead of getting upset about who
wrote the article, we can get interested in what the article is all
about.
There is a solution, though, for those people who cannot think of
a g(M>d comeback to the article [such as solid arguments which
prove the article to be wrongl and would instead just like to
namecall and criticize. If vou do not find favor in the article, and
would like to approach someone about it, there is always vour
beloved editor. Whenever an article is placed under the heading of
Editorial, it has the approval of the entire editorial staff. This
means that the entire editorial staff will take any of the credit, as
well as blame, for the article published.
So the next time you see John Roberts’ name in the paper, do
not be alarmed. John is merely alerting you to something wliich
needs immediate attention. Instead of getting upset about who he
is, get upset about what he is saying.
P.S. The use ot a pseudonym is not one without precedent in
journalism. Woodward and Bernstein of the Washington Post
used a pseudonym lo print their Watergate stories.
a Short
It is appalling to see the lack of student support at the Student
Body meeting. But let us remember that there were only three
members of the SGA Executive Committee there as well.
Sure, we need student support if we are to be good
representatives. But we have to give them something to support
first.
The Collegiate would like to thank George T. Murphy for the use
of his tools during a recent technical emergency.

As the students hopefully
have observed during the past
week, there have been a con
siderable amount of changes in
the cafeteria due to constant
complaints. Our new manager,
Mr Steve Cummings, has
whole-heartedly taken action for
the improving of the quality o
the food as well as the sanity for
the overall benefit of the stu
dents. And as a result, we the
students, should at least do our
part in improving the system as
1 personally think Mr.
Cummings and his employees
have done a beautiful job in the
area of improvment and they
deserve a great deal of respect
for their efforts. The ladies have
shown a great deal of warm
hospitality to the students and
have tolerated those who have
insisted on being rude. And
speaking of rudeness, 1 ve
noticed some pretty stale atti
tudes toward some of the work
ers as a result of the new
policies. For example:! couldn’t
help but regard one student s
behavior this morning as he
tried to get through without his
l.D. card. He kept persisting to
the lady at the desk to be let
through. After awhile, he mut
tered a few rude words and left.
What this guy didn’t realize was
that if they let every person
through that didn't have his or
her l.D. and that insisted he or
she was on the meal plan, we’d
be right back where we started
from. And Mr. Cummings
would have gone through a lot of
trouble for nothing. And as for
the ladies, they have to put up
with a lot and their job is hard
enough without a few immature
students trying to give them a
hard time. We cannot expect the
ladies to memorize each face
that enters because if they
could, I.D.’s wouldn’t be neces
sary.
The new policies have
be enforced along with
progressive standards or
cafeteria has only been
graded half-way. Its my belief
that if the workers can go
through extra trouble to make
the dining even more sanitary
and the food a much better
quality for us, we can be a little
more considerate, as well as
conservative, and bring our l.D.
cards with us to each meal or

his l.D. with him when he comes
to eat, he’ll have no other choice
but to wait in a long line because
no one can simply pass through
unless it’s proven that he’s on
the meal-plan or unless he pays
at the desk. Don’t even bother
to come up if you don’t have
your l.D. or if you’re not willing
to pay. But if you do, be
prepared to wait a long time.
The can prove you’re on the
