Congratulations Harper!!
In the afternoon’s “Battle of
the Sexes” with MIA, the WlA
"pulled through" in the tug-of-
war. Way to go women! (Of
course, we will not mention the
tact that there were ten girls to
the five guys!)
The day would have been
incomplete without an evening
affair! The WIA, along with
MIA and the Student Center,
sponsored a dance open to all
students. Everyone present en
joyed “gettin' down to the
music" which ranged from
beach to disco to a “little bit of
soul." WIA would like to take
this opportunity to thank Phil
Lassiter and the MIA Council
for all of their “pro" work as
D.J.’s. And “thank you" cer
tainly is extended to you, the
students who are the only ones
who can “make it happen" at
A.C.
Well, women, be on the
lookout for the dates of upcom
ing events such as the Fashion
Show presented in October by
Belk’s! And there is more to
come! See ya around,

InheritTheWindopens next Wednesday
Stage and Script’s first pro
duction of the school year is
Inherit the Wind, which will
open Wednesday night, Oct. 10
at 8 pm in Howard Chapel. The
play involves the largest assem
bled cast by Stage and Script.
Previously dramatic produc
tions have opened on Thursday
nights. Asked about the change
in opening. Drama Director Paul
Crouch said, “Students have
complained that they didn’t
have enough opportunities to
see the plays. We decided to
open on Wednesday to give
them one more performance.
Since the additional perform
ance costs us more to do, we will
have to revert to the Thursday
opening it we do not get large
Wednesday night audiences,"
The play will run through Satur
day. giving students, faculty,
staff and others four perfor
mance chances.
Questioned about the large
cast involved. Crouch said,
"Putting thirty-six people on
our small stage has been a real
challenge, but it has been worth
it. 1 his play gives inexperienced
actors the chance to play small
parts and find out what per
forming is all about. Hopefully,
many of these people will want
to come back and play larger
roles in the future."
Crouch also talked about the
ideas dramatized in the play.
The plot depicts the famous
Scopes Monkey Trial which
raised the question of whether
evolution could be taught in the
public schools. "But," says
Crouch, "the play is not about
evolution. It's about whether
people have the right to explore
any idea that someone might
raise. One character in the play
says, 'An idea is like a child
inside your body, it has to be
born.' That’s what we are
concerned with in this play.”
AC faculty, staff, and stu
dents with ID’s are admitted
free. Other students are charg
ed fifty cents; adults one-fifty at
the door.
